Okay, so I've been following you for about a year, and I love you so much more because you know the details of the Harry Potter books 😅😂❤

What really scares me, as a Christian, all these charismatic televangelists, up there taking people's money, making themselves rich off of the poor, sick, and desperate, makes me tend to think this will happen again.

A sad irony here is that Jim Jones own motto said: "Those who forget the mistakes of the past, are forever condemned to repeat them"

I'd say that's true to this day. The only truth he ever told.

It's always crazy to me that people will believe these pychopaths when they say they were Jesus in a past life because if you actually understood the Bible there is no way this could possibly happen. Jesus is God. Part the the Godhead. "God" in the Bible sense refers to 3 persons/entities that existed before creation and where involved together in creation. When Jesus was put in the womb of Mary her DNA and "God's" essense was completely entwined. Just like you and me. You can't pull out just your dad's or just your mom's dna. That's why he was fully man fully God. Now how all this is possible is very metaphorical and really cool to think about and the time line, out of time, just so cool concepts. But no one if reincarnation was a thing could have been Jesus in a past life or Jesus now. That is just so counter to the whole biblical narrative it's silly.

Late to the party as I just started watching Podcasts a few months ago, but I am hooked on Stefanie and derricks podcasts. This story hits close to home, literally, as I live in Willits, which is the next town north of Ukiah and Redwood Valley where Jones had his church. I remember working at our local grocery store back in the late 80s when a coworker informed me that he was part of Jones’s church and went to Guyana with his family. He lost his wife while he and his family were running from Jones enforcers in the Guiana jungle. I met his daughter years later who told me more horrific details about what had happened. My coworker was a very kind and gentle man. It breaks my heart to know that he and his wife had such good intentions, but their decision to follow him ended up destroying their family. All this happened way before I moved to the area, and I wasn’t really that aware of this cult at the time, but I have immersed myself in many TV shows, documentaries, and podcasts since then. I have driven by the old church, which is still there. I believe to this day. Just crazy to think someone would have that much control over people. But then, we still see it happening today with other cults. I sincerely hope podcast like these and other documentaries series, help in preventing other well-meaning families from making the worst decision they could possibly make.

I'm old enough to have been aware of this when it happened. It was presented as a mass suicide and nothing more. The fact that people were murdered, and that the children died first (so parents would not fight it) were not presented at the time.

I wish this evil man would swipe out of history. Would grab him by his nack and feed him with his own children. This persin is the biggest evil in history. Sat in a room where innocent children sreamed for their life, in pain and aggony. He set in his thron and did nothing. Evil bastard. Hope he is in hell and scream for his last bteath everyday. For eternity.

He was a vain, narcisistic, brutal and delusional drug addict living in his own fantasy, dragging inocent, well meaning, kind hearted, vulnarable people and poor kids down with him to experience hell, while they were promised paradise. What a coward psychopath. Hope he is rotten in hell alone, drinking koolaid everyday as a parnishment and suffer the pain for eternity, of what that 900 people, especially those innocent childrend had to go through. What a monster!

To be fair, the nuclear bomb stuff was a valid threat and a real concern. I know my family moved from the UK to Aus because of it. We lived in the middle of three targets and my mum demanded we move when brochures came in the mail, from the government, on how to build a nuclear fallout shelter in the cupboard under the stairs (Harry Potter style). The very idea of stocking enough supplies to last a family of 5 for two weeks was beyond ludicrous- never mind one member of the family hasn’t yet been born or would have been a very young baby. So we moved…and I was positive we’d escaped the threat of bombs, right up until my class was shown a video of a nuclear bomb and it’s aftermath and my teacher said if a bomb hit the centre or the CBD we’d survive but be in the fallout and fire area. I had nightmares for months!

I know I’m late to the conversation but I remembered my dad telling me about this guy when he was little living in San Francisco my grandma had this friend who was in awe of Jim Jones and told my grandma that she was going with them back to Ukiah and that my grandma should go with her and she actually said “hell no! I’m not doing that”
