3 Lesson from my near death experience | Yoav Asa | TEDxBeitBerlCollege
Yoav was a gifted athlete, coaching boys and girls and training them to peak condition in preparation for military service. On 16 September 2011, Yoav was electrocuted by a high voltage line during a routine workout in the area of a seemingly harmless sand dune. He suffered severe burns all over his body. Hardly showing any sign of life, he was flown by helicopter to the hospital. He had little chance of surviving the night. But he came through it. Yoav has gone down as a medical miracle. His story, about the will to survive and how to cope with terrible suffering, is presented in a fascinating, moving, and hope-inspiring lecture. This is the story of a man who will make you think once again about your life. Yoav Asa, an informal educator, heads the national organization “Asa Oti Lohem” (Make Me a Fighter) which for more than twenty years has prepared high school students from various population sectors for meaningful military service in the elite units of the Israel Defence Force. He is one of the founders of the Lauro Association and its flagship program known as “Leadership”. A life teacher and educator of thousands of boys and girls for the achievement of fulfillment, leadership, and love for their country, Yoav is married to Mor and father to Omer. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at

4 years agoAt 72, I recently broke 7 bones in a motorcycle accident. While still in shock and pain, I told my nurse that I felt that good things would come of this. She gave me a strange look, and wondered how I could be so positive. I decided to leave the hospital 2 1/2 days later. I live alone. About a month later, I was at the gym weight training what I could. Did this with a scraped at 4 inch wide, 2 ft, long swath of skin from the side of my leg, 6 broken ribs, broken left collar bone, and partly detached right collar bone, strained fascia and tendons. I healed well and rather quickly. The accident made me review my life, and check my priorities. The $37,524, 15 mile-ride to the hospital forced me into bankruptcy, but my financial stress is gone ; because I'm debt-free. Feeling generally happy. It's been 8 months now. I'm deadlifting 200 pds. Healed by attitude and strong belief in what the body can do. Hope I motivate other injured people to activate their healing power too. Good luck!

4 years agoThis has nothing to do with NDE. Near Death Experience is when near death one goes through some unexplained phenomena of being out of the body in which I do not believe. Anyway, this guy should change the title of the video to: ''How I nearly died.''

4 years agoI was critically injured in Iraq. I had a massive TBI and I was in a coma for 11 months. I was "aware" the entire time. I could hear people talking and feel, very blunt but still felt. I would go into this "place" where I knew I was dead. I would good to this place and there was a man who didn't have a face but I felt him turn into ppl I knew. We talked about our experiences even down to just small hi and bye. I talked to ppl I killed in war, and they looked how they did when I killed them. The more times went the darker and worse it got. I honestly have not been even remotely human since I woke. I only have the feelings I have from war, and I want too go back too that place and I belong there.

4 years agoaccepting where you are and what you can do from there. it’s going to work, i think. i’m depressed and very anxious. don’t fight it. accept it! so simple! fit then outside reality with yourself. accept responsibility and one thing, next day two things. next is a very hard step – get out of the house and work at volunteering. (believe it or not, it’s very difficult to find a place to volunteer in New York City. too many people already volunteering!) so this is actually a hard job, which is totally ridiculous!
right now, watch the rest.
the emotional depth of this man is so real, so dynamic. his personal connection with others must be so poignant. thank you so, so much 🌷🌱

4 years agoi suspect there is nothing worse than electrocution, especially if you are hooked up and not thrown..
Your frozen, your mind knows your cooking from the inside and there is nothing you can do..
And if you survive, your internal organs are seriously damaged and your skin has to be peeled in order for it to heal.
How fortunate to live a happy, good, long life – serving humanity- and later to die peacefully in your sleep.

4 years agoLemme sum up his lessons. Firstly whining and blaming takes energy and when you are trying to move forward or heal yourself… complaining just saps your own battery. Secondly, lead by example. Hopefully, that's obvious to people but I think that one actually might be the one that deserves a Ted Talk in and of itself, at least, in the America's. People so often think rules and guidelines are for OTHER people and this is the true test of their character and convictions. Thirdly, aligning yourself with some sort of greater good like helping others actually gives you more purpose and strength than focusing on your own personal needs.
