For decades he clashed with an oppressive class of rulers and just so happened to found a new Caliphate state along the way. He was perhaps one of the most influential West African scholars in Islamic history. Some scholars said he was the Mujaddid of his time while there were others who said he was nothing but a disruptive nuisance. He was Usman dan Fodio.
