SOCIETY & CULTURE – Cults – E1: “The Manson Family” – Charles Manson
In the first episode of “Cults” Greg and Vanessa explore the life of Charles Manson: how he turned from a troubled “callous and unemotional” child into an infamous cult leader, where Manson got his inspiration, and what psychological factors molded a murderer so charismatic and manipulative that his murder weapon of choice was not guns, knives, or axes, but other human beings.

DESCRIPTION
Mystery. Manipulation. Murder. Cults are associated with all of these. But what really goes on inside a cult? More specifically, what goes on inside the minds of people who join cults and leaders who start them? Every Tuesday, Greg and Vanessa (co-hosts of the podcast Serial Killers) explore the history and psychology behind the most notorious cults. Cults is part of the Parcast Network and is a Cutler Media production.

9 months agoPersonally I don't think Manson believed in helter skelter. I think he loved the power of being a cult leader and figured if he couldn't be a famed musician he would rather be remembered (and feared) for something violent and shocking.

9 months agoThe only difference between a cult and a religion is that in a cult, there's a crazy scam artist at the top who knows it's all fake – but in a religion, that guy is dead
