What is an ?
A near-death experience () is typically a profound, life changing, intensely emotional experience that usually occurs during a clinical crisis and has common characteristics and aftereffects. It is not a dream, hallucination, or mental illness (Greyson, 1983). There are no predictive variables to identify who will have an . They happen to people of all ages, religions, socio-economic groups, cultures, educational backgrounds, and belief systems. They occur under a variety of circumstances such as accidents, near-drownings, illnesses, combat, surgical procedures, and childbirth. Following an , experiencers (NDErs) often display some common aftereffects. Research has established a set of common NDE characteristics and long-term aftereffects. Theories used to explain near-death experiences in purely physical terms have been proven inadequate by NDE researchers and others.

Amazing perspective to analyze such an experience

Death is sterile. Brilliant way of putting it. Interesting that only this morning I received a message from my cousin saying "Humans are such fools. They have forgotten how to be happy. They dream of the future, cry for their past and forget to enjoy the present". I wonder what life is trying to say. Thank you for sharing this profound message Dr Cummings.

The point of life is to live…. I needed to hear this more than I even knew, or didn’t know, I’m struggling after my 2nd posterior cervical fusion fail…waiting for my doctor to call me with a plan, of basically fusing my head to my neck, I’m mortified, but I can’t live like this, and I haven’t been living for years due to all the pain and issues surrounding this misery. Your story brought tears to my eyes when you said that, the point of my life is to live, I want to live, no just exist…. Why can’t I just get the help I need. This is the scariest thing I have ever experienced… thank you for living and telling your story.

You experienced a spiritual awakening when you didn't believe or have any understanding of she soul. You spent your whole life becoming worldly smart but you neglected your soul! This is kind of what happens when you neglect the soul then suddenly awaken. Great story!

Ditto Bro. At times, I finished your sentences'. Still hard to share, when your feeling 'giddy' about dying, e.g. (going back 'Home'). Makes ya feel weird, talking about it, but ya can't help it. It's only the most important 'event', that has ever taken place in your life. I'm 72 going full time RV this fall. Gonna {LIVE} the time left here. Until I Don't. (MY N.D.E was 15yrs.ago). We're blessed bro.

God is always with us, in every moment. I have great comfort knowing that our pain is completely numbed in the event of a catastrophe. I hope this brings peace to people who have lost loved ones suddenly. I had an accident that was pretty bad in 1984. I will never forget being shocked that I felt something “wet” and it was my own blood as the initial pain was completely absent. I also witnessed 9/11 and I know those people who died couldn’t feel the pain. Our bodies have a way of protecting us from the worst. Some call it shock.

Thank you so much for your video. I suffer from what’s called death anxiety. I developed it as a secondary condition stemming from my OCD, an anxiety disorder that I was born with. I was also diagnosed with PTSD – Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, shortly after. I’ve really been struggling. Learning to cope with what seems like a never ending and overwhelming experience. Some days I am so tired that I feel dizzy, just standing up. Your experience has given me hope, and calmed some of my existing fears. I appreciate you sharing your story. Thank you

I wonder if he ever read Eben Alexander’s book “proof of heaven”. He was a neurosurgeon/ staunch atheist as well, and experienced very profound things. If any of you haven’t had the pleasure you should it’s a great read!

Eckhart Tolle wrote a great book, called the new earth, it’s a must read… Live in the now that’s all there is…

I'm a nurse. I've cared for many dying patients. People have souls. The disposition of your soul matters. I miss the people I've cared for who have died. I miss the guy I recently cared for. I still hear his voice telling me to hurry back when he was close to dying. He didn't want to be alone. If he needed food or I needed to go to the bathroom, he would say, "Hurry back!" then call me while I was gone. I still hear his voice saying, "Hurry back." I miss him so much!

So glad to hear your NDE thank you for sharing!

This doesn't sound much like a vacation! Your wife has a high tolerance (maybe need?) for risk. I wonder if you met her in med school? I found medical school full of daredevil types; theyd be off training for triathlons or skydiving while I'd be napping in the doctors' lounge, lol.

CORRECT. EVERYTHING "IS HERE RIGHT NOW." CORRECT. THE PROCESS "IS IN FRONT" OF US.

  15. #15

So is he still an atheist?

Interesting. I used to sit in class and make a determination to hear as little of the teacher, as humanly possible. ( Can't say I ever found an application for it in later life.)

I had my own near death experience and I don't believe I've observed any challenges. I've largely lost my fear of death, which is a burden relieved. I will read "Six Challenges" with curiosity. Thank you for this fascinating lecture.

Really enjoyed your experience. Losing time and loss of interest in previous motivations is very relatable. I thought it was a trauma response from grief but maybe it's a side effect of a covid nde 🤷 it does change you for sure, but I'm finding it easier to go with the flow, honor it and enjoy the yolo effect 😊

Thank you, Dr. Cummings. This was such a profound and important account.

Fascinating. Beautiful. Insightful. Encouraging. Realistic. Thank you for this video, Peter.

Isn’t it amazing that people can talk about things like this now.
I had a few experiences but never been able to talk about it before ❤️

My Mom’s uncle died on the operating table, they opened his chest and with cardiac massage brought him back. While dead he was in the spirit world. No pain, beautiful flowers, landscaping, friends. He wasn’t happy to be brought back.

We do not want to hear about you medical expertise and how you knew everything was happening. We want to hear about the near death experience when the soul leaves the body and ascends to one’s maker. The world beyond. That’s a near death experience. According to what I heard from you so far you actually did not die. You may have been close to it but it did not happen. Way too much talking. Tell us what really happened AFTER you died.

Dr. I hope you can read this, I left my body and I was able to see my self in my bed however I knew I was dead and I was going toward to the light I heard a voice saying I was not ready. I was not scared at all but I didn’t want to go yet so I tried so hard to get back to my body but I couldn’t until I was pushed back by something, like powerful force and soon as I got back inside my body, I open my eyes and I was so thankful and happy for a second chance. I appreciate everything more and I turned my self to God regardless religion or beliefs we know there will be life after our body dies. You know what you saw and how amazing will be because this was a glimpse of our eternal life. I am 100% in love with God, I believe in Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit. I am not ashamed to declare out loud how grateful I am to return to let others know the truth. I am so happy because now you will be able to help others too. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful experience and journey with us.

When the veil is lifted it is very confusing afterwards. For existing in the moment I've found Eckhart Tolle's book The Power Of Now to be helpful.

Sounds like he got a lesson in quieting the ego

WOW!!! What a great experience! I've suffered laryngospasms since 1993. Sometimes it only happens once a year, while other times it happens multiple times a year. My wife and kids, my coworkers, and strangers have all witnessed it happening and it usually shakes them up pretty good. I'm usually left shaking when I am able to breath again. I had to quit a burgeoning flying career, because I didn't want to kill myself or passengers if I pass out. For many years I didn't even know what was wrong with me… I always just described it as "choking on my own spit" to others. I saw ENTs and other doctors, and none of them had a single answer for me. Fast-forward to 2010, when my spine started giving my problems and I went it for the first of many procedures. The anesthesiologist asked me if there was anything that he needed to know before he put me under. I told him about my issue and he says "oh… you have laryngospams". I was like "YES!!! Someone FINALLY has an answer for me!" Anyways, my apologies for the rambling. I LOVE NDEs and they give me hope and remind me that love is ALL that matters. And hearing this doctor talking about my issue really hit home. Thank you for sharing your experience. I am grateful. 🙂

Ive had two NDE*s, both different from your experience, same scarey cross over, after pure love 1st time, pure horror second time but same conclusion as you about life, my second death proved to everyone that we are part of a super conscious and the almighty has rules about staying in the beautiful side, im not religious but i touched something so powerful im ok now, its too much to write but i bet they gave you a sutle superpower of some sort and it takes time to learn how it works or trust yourself with it. I saw things and astro travelled as a child but thought it was just dreams and mind tricks/seeing things until murdered dead people contacted me and I found and helped them. Its a book im writing but its not over yet as theres some high ranking officials scratching their heads and looking at me. What did they give you Dr pete .??? Immortality by how young you look??? I sitting here deciding whether to delete all this again, but i think you should know that you do know..if that makes sense ok. I dont fear the valley of death but i must live too the full. Purier the thought, clearer the path, and yes it has been all preplanned destiny just DONT" kill anyone" and DONT"KILL YOURSELF" and the rest will be judged. Dont know whether to push send or delete.
