Near-Death Experiences: The BEST EVIDENCE Of Life After Death | Dr. Bruce Greyson

Jan 2024 12

We often think the mind is a creation of the brain, or that the mind and the brain are one and the same. But when the brain is offline for a number of reasons, like illness or injury, the mind can sometimes still be very active.

Today on The , Dhru talks to Dr. Bruce Greyson about this phenomenon in the context of near-death experiences or NDEs. We have to remember that even just 20 years ago new scientific ideas were emerging that people thought were crazy. People are always skeptical of things they haven’t been taught. Now, the study of near-death experiences is pushing the boundaries of modern research.

Dr. Greyson is a Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the UVA School of Medicine. His award-winning research led him to become a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and to be invited by the Dalai Lama to participate in a dialogue between Western scientists and Buddhist monks in India.

Dr. Greyson’s interest in near-death experiences began just a few months after graduating from medical school, when he treated an unconscious patient in the emergency room who stunned him the next morning with an account of leaving her body. That event challenged his beliefs about the mind and the brain, and ultimately led him on a journey to study near-death experiences scientifically, leading to more than a hundred publications in medical journals.

In this episode, Dr. Greyson shares some of the most dramatic first-person accounts of near-death experiences from his book After. Dhru and Dr. Greyson discuss how NDEs reveal a lot about dying and what might come after, but they also reveal just as much about life and living, about the value of compassion and our interconnectedness with one another, and about what makes a life meaningful and fulfilling. They also talk about how NDEs can help to transform the fear of dying that pervades our culture—into a healthy view of it as one more milestone in the course of our lives.

In this episode, we dive into:
– Dr. Greyson’s first experience with a patient who had a near-death experience (4:32)
– A near-death experience story from Dr. Greyson’s book (15:51)
– What near-death experiences tell us about the mind-body connection (19:37)
– The parallels between psychedelic experiences and near-death experiences (29:06)
– The misconceptions around near-death experiences (34:58)
– How near-death experiences reduce the fear of death (39:08)
– How to get the benefits of a near-death experience without actually having one (41:54)
– The history of near-death experiences (46:51)
– Reincarnation beliefs among near-death experiencers (49:22)
– How near-death experiences change people’s lives (1:01:45)

I had the exact same experience at 22……I was in emergency at some point I left my body and I was floating up around the ceiling enveloped in an orange light. I could not only look down and see doctors working on reviving me but could also see my husband and his brother in the waiting room.
Then at some point I somehow wound up back in my body but don’t remember how it happened.

I’d like to talk to him about my NDE as a 1yr old. I doubt he’s met any that can remember any great details at that age… however, my earliest full memories started at around 4/6 months old, and the NDE was my 3rd unforgettable experience with full recall.

Interesting from a Doctor/Researchs perspective. Ive done 100s of NDE studies myself. I wish people that use hair pieces, rugs, or toupes, just wouldn't. 😂

At 32:30 he mentioned the golden rule and how all religions have this built into them. The golden rule is a morality built into your heart by the creator God. I think where Christianity differs from other religions is it teaches love your neighbor as yourself and also teaches love your enemy. When Christ says love your neighbor he doesn't say love them only if they believe in what you believe or they are kind to you. Loving your enemy is a foreign concept to most religions like Islam. They are a religion built on fighting and war. Hindus allow suffering in the name of they are living out there karma from some past life they don't know about. Christ's ministry was built on serve one another in love. The 2 most important commandments according to Christ is 1st love God with all your heart mind and soul and 2nd love your neighbor as yourself.

Dr Greyson is right, he's not asking the right questions because there is an answer to everything & science doesn't satisfy it, nor was science ever meant to – Christ the Lord.

Every unrepentant sinner should fear dying, though, because judgment day is coming.

I had a near-death experience even the hospital that I had gone to said that I was a miracle patient and I also have proof because my sister called me three days later and saw what I saw at the same time even though she was home it was amazing beyond words and I remember it well and there is no delusion there is no I kind of remember you do remember every bit of it is the strongest most wonderful thing that could ever I had pulmonary embolisms going through my heart and I mean thousands I should have never lived and then it went to a second death going to my lung my left lung and he said I should have died from that but I did not I just sat there for 3 days my experience was so unbelievable I prayed all the time when I was laying in the bed for 3 days I was not afraid at all and I believed in God so much and I asked him if he could take me I will be fine if he wants to leave me here I will be fine I came out of my body I went through the ceiling I mean the wall and with Jesus Christ and I walked with him to where I lived and I went into the ceiling and looked down with Jesus we both did and saw my sister praying with candles and my Bible and she was kissing my Bible the next day I was healed and I went into a regular room and she called me on the phone and said I saw you and Jesus in our home 🏡 God's message to me and my sister was he was well pleased with us because we prayed properly

There is no real 100 % evidence of Life after death – no matter what they all use to put in their headlines – I am not atheist but always very sceptical when it comes to – that anybody wants me to sell their evidence of anything in this world. Some of those NDE´s from people do sound really trustworthy – others are pure fiction or just dirty lies.

I’ve always had dreams as a child that I questioned and wondered if there was another me with memories of places I’d never seen in this life; so I began researching reincarnation even before the internet was around!!! So just imagine how I did that! That was the 1980s . Now I’ve come to realise how we are multi-dimensional beings, living multiple lives simultaneously and learning continuously… in the coming years we will all be awakening to our true nature and we are more amazing than we can possiblely imagine …. ❤ wonderful interview thank you!!!🙏

  22. #22

My feeling about the children having access to past lives is that everything is happening at the same time past present and future.

What if the mind is a "captive" of the physical brain? Or the brain is like a governor on a motor? My NDE started with me floating out of my body and then I had what appeared to be an eagle eye view of a very large section of the universe. Then my mind just exploded with information to the extent that I felt like there was literally no information that I did not have access to. Then to abbreviate, heaven, the light, unbounded indescribable Bliss, begging to stay, dang earthbound again. It did absolutely change my world and my life. Wonderfully. Great discussion. Peace.

  26. #26

There is no such thing as reincarnation.🤦‍♂️ That’s just another lie by the devil to lead people to think you get more than 1 chance.

  30. #30

The awakening we have all been touched by can't be seen as evolution in the brain, yet we all felt it coming, creeping up since the 50s and climaxing in 2022 and now we just accept it.

  31. #31

Ive experienced two NDE's and what stops my belief in the afterlife is people who claim to have religious experiences during life after death. I don't believe in God, religion is totally made up, and sometimes I think that these people are lying or i don't know. I didn't see God or anyone, just darkness but I knew that I wasn't alive, but I knew that I was alone.

  32. #32

The fact that what we see is a very small percentage of what is actually there makes one believe in an afterlife!

  33. #33

My mother was lingering, and the family had gathered.,
Eventually i kissed her and whispered in her ear "Dad is waiting for you"
With that, she took a deeper breath and died.
    The mind os very special.

At my motorcycle accident scene all I thought of was my children as I knew the end was near. When I came too I was mad at the Ambulance people, Nurses and Doctors there forth. Now when I have any operations I must sign the DNR orders. To be at peace again.

Thank you for your candid interview.

This infinite emergence happened to me, without 'dying'. You don't have to die to experience the change in sensory and mind perception, and 'understanding'. I don't know what else to call what it is. I discovered directly that it's impossible to end, because finite doesn't exist. We've never been in danger, because there's no possibility of loss or ending. I discovered this physically, via literally sensing infinity, in front of me, and behind me, like a sense of endless in and out waves passing through my abdomen, while I was walking down a hill. This whole process lasted around 15 minutes.

I didn't have any optical or audible aspect, but small birds were flying right up to me, while it occurred. They somehow knew they were not in danger by getting so close. I was fully aware and more-so than ever before. It was an overwhelming sense of having a completely new and different fully-formed unknown 'mind', all of a sudden, that operated entirely differently to normal thinking. A whole new level of finiteless perception of a completely connected physical existence.

It was the most thoroughly shocking discovery of my life, plus an ecstatic feeling of unexpected astonishment, that this infinite mind was already in me, and for all of my life. It was just latent until this moment. And I knew everyone else had this mind too. It was suddenly clear that everything I'd been taught was an illusion, based on a mental assumption that finite existed. I simply didn't perceive a physical difference between objects and myself any more.

And it was implicitly perfectly clear that I was immortal, always had been, even though it sure seemed like I wasn't. There was no doubt about it, I could never end. It was the most 'peak' thing I've ever felt. The perception came from my whole body, not from my usual mind. My thinking was completely absent, it was gone for this entire time. So my understanding and comprehension was suddenly not verbal.

I struggled to come up with a way to write down or describe what occurred. It simply could not be conveyed in words to another person. Very frustrating, because I could not communicate it or transfer this incredible understanding to another person. So it was an exclusively personal event, yet personal was not what it was at all, it was all-inclusive actually.

I have a BSc (geology), I'm not religious, and do not take drugs. This happens to humans. If it can happen to me it can happen to anyone. But now I know this infinite-mind is real, and it's in all of us, all the time, operating always, but we are not aware of it. It did not switch-on, it was always on. What occurred is I suddenly noticed this mind, and it fully took over.

Human beings have an infinite mind – this is a fact that I have known since, 1:20 PM, Nov 19th, 2000.

You don't need to die and have your soul leave your body to encounter this infinite mind's very shocking sudden emergence. It feels indescribably good. You eventually realize the 'good', is actually you. You feel what you are. Your entire head and body tingles all over in moving waves, as this perception occurs.

I immediately understood it to be my real mind, and the normal thinking human consciousness was my 'facsimile' mind. A shabby attempted copy, of a degraded copy, of an actual infinite-mind. So compelling and shocking is its onset and operation. I can't really emphasize enough how shocking it is to discover it pop into operation, and how frighteningly powerful it feels as these waves move in and out of you.

When I hear people recounting NDE's, I immediately recognise what they're saying, and how their perception and senses were altered. The same human infinite-mind came to the fore the moment the NDE began. So you don't have to die for the infinite-mind perception and receptivity to jump to the fore.

It's an incredible relief to know you can't end and that there's no real death. That was the overwhelming impression it left me with. So I have no problem accepting that NDEs really occur, if we all have infinite minds that are constantly on, but which we don't know is operating 100% of the time in all humans alive.

I have a few aggressive Ependymomas in my lower spinal-fluid channel (I'm terminal). It's unspeakably agonizing when it leaks muck into my spinal fluid. I'll be very glad to die, it's been a (mostly) loveless, horrible and very depressing life. I did learn a lot, but if I 'planned' that for myself, in advance, that was a very bad plan. I don't wish to do something as dumb as this again.

But there is a girl I dearly want to see when we're both back. Ariel. I long to see her again. If I get to see her and love her again it'll have been worth it.

This all kind of proves that God is real and that the Bible is true. People do go to hell just as people do go to heaven. That's why there are scary and traumatic NDE'S. Thankfully, those who have seen hell during their NDE were given the chance to rethink their beliefs when they are brought back.
Most all who do experience hell during their NDE, live their lives better and change their beliefs afterwards.
Once they experience the love of God and that he saved them from hell, they are forever changed.

I work in mental health and knowing what I now know I often feel quite despondent about the lack of spirituality in relation to therapy and treatment. People like Dr Bruce, Brian Weiss and Dr John Weber (The Red Chair), give me hope that the treatment and understanding of mental health challenges is evolving.

1 Corinthians 15:especially starting At verse 35 you will find very relevant. So this video pretty much proves you go somewhere after death , then it is logical to believe the resurrection is possible making it worth exploring for those of you that are atheist.
