Growth of Religion in Africa – The Rise of Islam?
This map represents the growth of religion across Africa. In many African places, Islam is the main growing religion, although Christianity and Folk religions grow quite quickly as well. Folk religions are faiths consisting of combinations of religions with traditional/local practices. They are distinct from traditional religions and often incorporate aspects from Animism. Christianity accounts for 49,3% of religious beliefs, while Islam accounts for 41,5%. Traditional Beliefs make up 7,9 and only 1,3% are none/undeclared for/other (Journal of Religion and Demography).
