David Maginley – The Near-Death Experience of a Christian Pastor

Nov 2022 02

ABOUT DAVID
Rev. David Maginley is a counselor at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and award-winning author of Beyond Surviving: Cancer and Your Journey. David has also survived cancer four times, which resulted in a profound near- experience and explorations in the nature of consciousness and the connection of body, mind and spirit. He knows what it’s like to have cancer from both sides of the hospital bed, and has a sense of this life from both sides of the veil. He is ordained with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, specialist with the Canadian Association for Care, member of Canadian Association for Psychosocial Oncology, the International Association for Near- Studies, and is featured in the documentaries Here Right Now and When You Die.

What is an ?
A near-death experience () is typically a profound, life changing, intensely emotional experience that usually occurs during a clinical crisis and has common characteristics and aftereffects. It is not a dream, hallucination, or mental illness (Greyson, 1983). There are no predictive variables to identify who will have an . They happen to people of all ages, religions, socio-economic groups, cultures, educational backgrounds, and belief systems. They occur under a variety of circumstances such as accidents, near-drownings, illnesses, combat, surgical procedures, and childbirth. Following an NDE, experiencers (NDErs) often display some common aftereffects. Research has established a set of common NDE characteristics and long-term aftereffects. Theories used to explain near-death experiences in purely physical terms have been proven inadequate by NDE researchers and others.

Christian teachings is when we die you will be judge instantly by God, is that so you have in your NDE? Christians were taught of heaven and hell, is it true in the afterlife of pure Love?

    Beautiful video!

  6. #6

Is this the Christian concept of theosis?

In other words, "The self is a relation which relates itself to its own self, or it is that in the relation that the relation relates itself to its own self; the self is not the relation but that the relation relates itself to its own self", as Soren Kierkegaard put it.

I died in 2013. Its about love. Love one another. Best.

What denomination was he pastor of ?

This reminds me very much of "New Seeds of Contemplation" by Thomas Merton. We are all "in God". And God is so simple that there can be no divisions or shadows within Him. When we are In God, we are so intimately One with God, that we are indistinguishable from the Divine. (as I understand Merton).

This was so beautiful and inspiring. This is what the whole world needs to hear.

I’m adding to my other comment. David who is the “we person” in your video. Maybe you don’t know or the “we person” was never identified to you, but your video leads people to presume that it was God. Which God? The “we” ofthe Godhead, God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit, or the Hindu trinity? You never once mention the Father, the Son, or the Holy Spirit by name. You start off this video by trying to make people comfortable with the Trinity by comparing the concept to other religions, why? You don’t mention that Jesus Himself says, “I am the Way, the Truth, the Life, no one comes to the Father except through Me.” There is no comparison to the Hindu trinity. I have watched many NDE videos, from Christian and non Christians. I don’t commit on non Christian videos, because they don’t claim to know God, the Christian God. I am committing on yours because you claim to be a Christian pastor. Sir, who is your God?

  14. #14

David,as a proclaimed Christian minister, not once did you give glory to God. You compared God to the Hindu “trinity” as if God embraces that “similar” belief system. Are you teaching the Word of God ? Because, although I cannot say your testimony of what you experienced isn’t true, it does not line up with the Word of God. We will indeed be one with God, as Jesus was one with His Father, but we will never be God. I read a lot of the comments and the majority of people agree with your concept of God, but as a Christian who believes the entire Word of God, what you stated about your experience and how you relate your experience to your life, makes me believe that you are deceived. I have never had an NDE so all that I am saying here is based on God’s Word. If your experience does not line up with God’s Word, His truth, it is deception.

I have come to terms with my ego. I love my ego but my ego does not love me. It helps me maneuver through this three-dimensional existence. Only memory of ego will remain when I leave.

    Sounds good to me, Pastor

  17. #17

We all have the same power in us that rose Jesus from the grave 💪

Where is justice, repentance, sin, forgiveness, grace, good and evil, the judgement, heaven and hell? Exactly which good or evil spirit were you talking to, and experiencing? The father of all lies is a very convincing liar to capture your spirit and your soul, in NDE's. God is love, but there is tough love, which is justice to our free will, in our arrogance of pride. The father of all lies convinces us we are Gods, this is what fallible humans can fall for, in any of our experiences, with our sinful prideful innate natures. Good and evil exist, and so does spiritual warfare, for our spirits and our souls; don't believe the hype, in nothing but goodness and light, happiness and peaceful, near death experiences. Jesus our lord and our savior, came down to our planet for a good reason, and your redemption into the afterlife with the forgiveness you did not deserve, that grace gives you. Wake up to the spiritual fraud, that we are all Gods, and good and evil, and justice does not exist in the afterlife.

    Thank you, Namaste

Don't want to take up too much space but wanted to say thanks. No bs, just an honest man speaking honest thoughts. Refreshing, and good luck.

I spoke of this exact concept of God with a Christian doctor about twenty years ago. She mentioned she had been on several humanitarian missions in South America and I expressed my admiration. Don't remember how we got on the salient issue but I remember stating this: I see God to be the loving creative intelligence of this and all possible universes. But in the beginning there was no ability to self-reference, since God is one. So, the loving intelligence broke itself up into a zillion little pieces and aimed them at each other so they all could learn about the other pieces. She replied, "That's interesting, I'll have to think about that." Happy to be my little piece. And that's why all the people who know will tell you all is one.

  25. #25

We are all God but we're pretending we're not.

  26. #26

Wow! This guy is great. I just wanted to hear him say more about Jesus. Sounds like the friend may have been Him.

Everything you say is probably right and spiritually sane, but the Christian religion doesn't allow saying "we're all God". It is time to compare the Abrahamite nations of dogma mine fields against the "pesky heretics" with observations. The information society allows collection of observations, and it is time to scrap the religious dogmata for some real spirituality. I experience post-NDE Christians as not really Christians, they are constructing a new religion that doesn't fit in within the borders of the old religions.

Thank you for sharing your great experience

David's message is the universal truth spoken of in the Upanishads. Yes, we are all God, in the sense that, there is nothing that is not God. It just masquerades as other things through the human senses, psyche, and brain. We are droplets of water in an infinite sea, each droplet being one with the sea.

Yes! THIS is what I've been needing to hear, the past several months. Hi, whoever might be reading this. My "ego self" sees myself as the "Steve" I've known myself to be my whole life. To you, I'm basically merely these typed words. The actual "me" inside here can't even begin to express to you, through these mere typed words, all that has accumulated in my "heart", my mind, my thoughts, my concerns, my considerations and pondering, wondering about the TRUE nature of our existence and "reality", our "life" and our "death", the essense of any purpose we might have… and even wondering if there truly IS any real purpose. My "scientifically open mind" leads me to realize that many in the scientific/medical community claim there is NOthing beyond this current life. However, many in that same community claim quite the opposite. It's such a dilemma, trying, with my limited ability to do so, to determine what the Real Truth actually is. I'll cling to my hope that my pondering seems to lead toward… that the only explanation for the possibility that we each have a consciously aware, sentient experience can ONLY be realized from a framework of a backdrop within which that realized consciousness flows FROM. The scientific/medical community has remained backrupt toward giving effective explanation toward the actual nature of the "hard problem of consciousness" (look that up on Wikipedia). This would be exactly the case, we're they to be in fact wrong in their "non-belief". The evidence seems to mount that I have no need to fear, or be concerned about my personal deep aingst concerning whether we, whether my ego "I", will continue when this heart inside my chest beats its final pump of blood through my veins. That moment IS coming… soon enough… for each of us. There's NO MORE IMPORTANT realization to have than the reality of what that impending moment brings to ourselves! And so, I search for the answer. I'm hearing, in this video from this dear man, the words of my uncle Dave, who before he passed from this life a few years ago (still seems like yesterday) we had many, many talks about his own "experience" of "being there". Surely it's a matter completely beyond mere molecules and atoms, physics, and brain chemistry. And so, you'll continue seeing me staring off into space, often… pondering! Blessings, y'all. My heart loves you, and desires each of us peace and joy in this current sojourn.. as we wait for the veil of Life to open. It's coming.. soon ❤

And it's okay to die as well.

Not a “Christian” pastor in the traditional or biblical sense.
