“SINNERS” Star Wunmi Mosaku on Hoodoo and Honoring Black Spirituality
Wunmi Mosaku, star of SINNERS, joins us for an honest conversation about honoring Black spirituality, the real meaning behind Hoodoo and Voodoo, and her personal connection to the story’s deeper themes. British Nigerian actress Wunmi Mosaku plays Annie a Hoodoo priestess from Louisiana in the upcoming Gothic Horror film Sinners written & directed by Ryan Coogler.
We get into how starring in His House, Lovecraft Country and now Sinners has helped overcome her fear of the Horror genre. The importance of Annie’s representation of African spirituality and her all important and intentional looks on the Sinners press run.
Starring alongside Michael B Jordan, Delroy Lindo, Hailee Steinfeld St Miles Caton, Omar Miller and more Sinners follows Smoke & Stack twins (played by Michael B Jordan) who return to their hometown of Clarksdale, Mississippi after fighting in WW2 and working with Al Capone in Chicago. Wanting to start fresh and open a juke joint their efforts are interrupted by unexpected dark forces.
