2 years agoNOTIFICATION SQUAD: I honestly regret not talking about this sooner on Abroad in Japan. But hopefully if we can prevent just a few of you from enduring it, it'll make up for it.
But what's the WORST scam you've encountered inside or outside Japan? SHARE your wisdom below!

2 years agoOnly drink bottled drinks open in front of you.
Do not drink more than your limit.
You will be taken advantage of – if you are not in your right mind.
This applies to all countries – do not be an idiot in a country that you are a stranger in.
Stay safe.

2 years agoThis sounds like the “gasinos” in Turkey. I almost got caught in one, but walked out without even sitting down. They had police or some security officers, not sure which, holding signs warning about touts when we were in Tokyo last week.

2 years agoQuestion about the cult in the video. Do you know if it is the Aum Shinrikyo, Aleph, or the Joyu Group? I ask cause I have to do a presentation on them and this player out like one of their recruitment tactics. if so I would love to use part of you video in my class presentation if you are ok with that.

2 years agoSo the tout scammers go to Japan from Nigeria specifically to do this scam. Why does the Japanese government tolerate it?

2 years agoNot being judgmental…However all the scamming generally has to have a common thread…Drinks….why all of us tourists can't keep in check our crrnal instincts of connecting enjoyment with drinking….One can drink to their hearts content when you are in your bastion & familiar surroundings…Food for thought though…

2 years agoIn Thailand where I come from, they approach you buy asking if you can speak English. While your natural response is, yes, I do, resist the urge and just walk on before they entice you into going to this wild party with them where supposedly you would be having 'the time of your life.'

2 years agoHmm.. bet those folks that got attacked by crazy fckin monkeys wish they had a firearm to put it down before being mauled.
I love Japanese culture and entertainment, but they could take a page from the U.S. laws and allow their citizens to protect themselves. The arson proves it doesn’t take a firearm to murder however, it does take a firearm to stop an angry monkey or violent human.
I’m also curious if Japan has a good chunk of violence that isn’t reported. I find it hard to believe more than a fraction of domestic violence is reported.

@leenb.7936
2 years agoThe different prizes are somewhat common in tourist areas around the world I would suspect, after I heard from my brother that he experienced such in Prague, apparently it is very common there that tourists would pay more for the same. All else though… hope I
or anyone But the scammers themselves reallywill ever have to experience something like that ever (again).I now know that I will turn off finger and or face recognition on my phone and will change pincodes to something as close to random as I can get it without forgetting, so there is less chance of me being coerced into giving out or typing in my pincode when drugged. I will never assume my rather huge tolerance to drugs will be of any help, that’s for sure! What a nightmare some people have had to endure.
Keep doing these kind of videos as well, Japan might remain the safest place in the entire universe but still I fear there will be the (hopefully rare occasion of) scammers or other criminal minds or even the smallest up-to-no-good-doers

2 years agoMy friend when he was new to Australia, went to sign up for a Sim card and didn't know what the process was.
He went to a small phone shop and the guy got a lot more details that were necessary to get a new Sim card. My friend had 10000 dollars stolen from his bank account.
He managed to recover it, but it was a big scare.
You gotta be careful when you go to a new country and don't know how things work, you could be scammed anywhere.
It's important to do your research.
Australia is also an extremely safe country.
