Christianity reached Eritrea in 330 AD — the same year Constantinople became the capital of Rome and fifty years before Christianity became Rome’s official religion. From Jerusalem, through Alexandria, to Axum, the faith took root in Africa long before the Vatican even existed.
The churches carved in stone in Eritrea and Ethiopia stand as living proof of an ancient faith that Europe later adopted.
