Me and my buddy Oscar got out of work and decided
to go fishing for gar for a couple of hours. I ended up
inviting my uncle Rick AKA the Lip Ripper as well. We
decided to go to most over fished spot in my opinion
down here in South Texas ” The Water Fall” in
Mercedes, Tx. We picked this spot because of a buddy
of mine who told me his bro had caught a Gar there a
few weeks back. I couldn’t believe it because this spot
is always so heavily fished, and when I mean heavily
fished I mean both fishing and illegal gill netting. Well
long story short we ended up catching one there and
Cooking it afterwards. Hope you all enjoy this video

2 years agoExcellent video guys! Took me back to when my jefito and his compadres would take all of us to Mercedes Tx and catch them catanes…
But he would catch them with a tresmayo … He would leave my older brothers in one area of the canal and he would drive about a 1/2 mile down the canal … They would get into the water with sticks and splash the water so they could scare the fish towards where my dad had placed the tresmayo…
Man! We would see how it would be moving and we knew that we had em!!!
The hard job was pulling out the tresmayo with all of the gar!!! Sometimes there were 2-3 gars and some catfish…
I was about 8 years old and I still remember coming home with all our catch and seeing my dad and my older brothers and my dad’s compadres cutting open the gars and start cutting them into huge chunks…
My dad would share with all of the neighbors on our street… He would send me to give them some gar to all of our vecinos…
Man! Those were the good old days
We would stay up till 2-3am eating chicharrones de catan and listening to old school polkas, redovas, huapangos & corridos from Los Alegres De Terán, Los Doneños, Carlos y Jose, Luis y Julian, Los Broncos De Reynosa, Ramon Ayala y Los Bravos Del Norte, Los Cadetes De Linares, Los Invasores De Nuevo León…
Man!!!! That was about 40 years ago!!!
So glad and thankful God has allowed me to have my dad with us todavía… He’s 83 now and he’s still into fishing! 🎣… Every now and then you’ll see him mending his tresmayo and his terrayas…

2 years agoI use the same fish fry seasoning. Next time put a couple dashes of fajita seasoning in it and tell me how u like it. I love it. Used that recipe to cook bass and it tasted very good

2 years agoI did the same thing it was my favorite place for fishing I took out a lot of catanes in that place, I cut trees to get to where you took out that catan, before there was no way to get to where the logs are in the water every time I went fishing there clean as much as I could, greetings and good fishing

2 years agoThere's plenty of huge gar still around … there's huge shiner. Mullet and carp also. I just haven't been having luck with catching talapia lately
