Not all cults started bad. The Jim Jones cult, the Peoples Temple, started positively but sadly ended in 900 deaths. Most people don’t know that the Peoples Temple provided decent housing for hundreds of church members. They ran care homes for hundreds of mentally ill or disabled individuals. They also created a social and political space for African Americans and whites to live and work together in California and Guyana. This type of activism for a church was something new back then. source
