1 year agoanything that asks you to give your power away is false light, if it empowers you. you are on the right path.- the issue with this is that you wont know the difference unless you have went out and tried a few things.

1 year agomartial cults- aikido- actually every mc dojo- ATA -united self defense, tiger Schulman, any chain- Kenpo is a big one- kyokushin… oh yeah Dillman "uncle naughty touch"
i guess BJJ can be but there ate too many alphas to be a bunch of followers -same with boxing and kick boxing and wrestling- they embody american Budo

1 year agoWell not all MMA practicers are a cult, but they exist. I have seen a few & I've trained with them as well. I think cross training is good which is why try to do so as much as possible even intigrated BJJ into my MA systems. I even have a black belt in BJJ who holds classes on occasion with my dojo just to help my students groundgame. I also know plenty of MMA schools that blast anything not their BJJ or MT & don't train outside MMA. So how they know kungfu sucks if they don't compete san soo?

Well a family can be a cult as well; look at the Mophia they use the cult idea of group identity to remove the freedom of the individual to serve the "family." Not every form of education shares cult behavioral models; you are told to not read other books on history or what shows on history just because you are learning history in school. Behavioral mods are only required when you are trying to create a specific behavioral index; such as with MA or military training.

Thats for a large part true, but a health sceptic will have doubts about everything. The shared aspects with cults and MA orgs are mostly in that they both use behavioral conditioning models. However, MAs have a large area of which that can be abused to become cult thinking. I was focusing more on methodolgies then drives since the drives can be different; sense of belonging, power or having a "reason for living" are elements that draw people into cults.
