Some Near Death Experiences known as 'Peak in Darien Experiences' involve encounters with dead people who were still thought to be alive at the time, or were complete strangers to the experiencer. For Example, Dutch Cardiologist Pim Van Lommel has shared the case of a male patient who, while undergoing cardiac arrest, encountered his dead grandmother and a strange man who looked at him lovingly, but whom he couldn't recognize. A decade later, the patients mother, now on her deathbed, confessed to her son that her husband wasn't his real father, and that he'd actually been born as the result of an extramarital affair. His biological father was actually a Jewish man who was killed during the German Occupation of the Netherlands in World War 2. His Mother also gave him a photograph she'd kept of his biological father, and he immediately recognized him as the strange man he'd encountered during his Near Death Experience over a decade before.
