Where did Jesus claim to be god? Think for yourself. Bet you cant find the word Jesus in the original Greek or Latin.
Rightly do people say this. They're waking up to all the problems and abuses of (externalized) religion as a coercive system, and want to have some say in their own spiritual lives. Childish threats of punishment don't scare people who have outgrown such beliefs.
I used to say this during my confused, not committed to anything years. Looking back, this meant, really, I was not clear about who or what I believed even though if you asked me, I'd say I was Christian. But I couldn't tell you how Jesus Christ was different and what it meant to trust Him. I will not say I'm religious today, but I'm very clear about what it means to worship and trust the Lord Jesus Christ. I read and study the bible nearly on a daily basis and allow the Holy Spirit to lead me. My perspective on just about everything has changed from worldly to lining up with the Word of God. I am a different person.
When an evangelist brings a message to others, it will always be in one of two ways. In either case they will speak of and also demonstrate their own relationship to truth. At one extreme their love for others is revealed by the act depicted in scripture as "stoning" — literally slaying by the blunt force of rocks (petra). At the other is a love for humans so inconceivable that mere generosity or tolerance is eclipsed by its stunning sacrifice. Which of us has a humility true enough to establish himself on that scale?
Too many conflate 'religion' with GOD. There is a vast chasm between the two, clearly.
GOD expresses HIS will, HIS standards, HIS wisdom, HIS qualities through HIS Word as found in The Bible.
Shame that most 'religions', and they all claim to represent GOD, simply do not follow the tenets found in GOD's Word.
GOD's Word calls these charlatans, 'the men of lawlessness'….AND…we are admonished to stay away from these lawless ones.
Think about it.
People claim to be god all the damn time.
There are HOW MANY different cults with individuals claiming to be jesus out there? Several.

The occult is so strong right now. I pray against it daily. Especially with people in my own family. The occult has taken over for atheism.
There is no side everything just is and it is our choices that make up the “good” and the “bad”
I believe in god. I dont belive in religion. Religion is tanted. I have met some of the most hypocrite, self indulged, liers, thieves, and hatefull people in churches.
I think for those who don't want to believe, it's easy to dismiss the claims of Jesus to be God as added posthumously to make a legend out of him. And with that, the Trilemma is no more :-/

Jesus is not the most high God.
He is second most powerful celestial being. Who manages God's government.
He is our lord. But He is under the father YHWH orders.
the spiritual realm is not a vague place. It is percisley ordered and organized. Eveyone know their place.
The trinity concept is foolishness.
Other than Jesus God has many many sons. There are many, many spirits. Is a busy place.
But Jesus the right hand son. The first born. All things where created through him.
He is not a creation of God. His an Extension of God. First born son. He has the same essence as God. But his source is the father, as of all of us.
Being spiritual is not necessarily an honorable thing in and of itself. Adolf Hitler, Mao Zedong, and Anton Levey were all spiritual.
Maybe people feel compelled to interpret Jesus as lord and god, because it soothes the existential angst they grapple with.

I spoke with a woman on a dating site last night and she said she was spiritual. I asked what does that meant because i said i believe in god. Well.
She lost it. Said my god was fake and how could god let children die. I said u still havent answered me what spiritualism is. She said she would answer and has an answer. I said im waiting.
She told me Fck you and your fake god and deleted me. Haha. I looked up at the clock and it was 00:00 and i thought wow. Is that a sign. Ive no idea but what came to mind was Jesus saying. They hated me first..

This is so dumb. you can define "greatness" many ways, and it is only his perspective, or CS Lewis's, that a "great" man cannot claim to be god. Why? Also, asking "gotcha" questions is incredibly rude and dismissive. It is asking a question to push them into saying what you want them to say, or assuming that they will. Like how he assumes they will reply that a great man cannot claim to be god. Better option, ask to truly understand and listen to them. People are a lot more complex than a gotcha question.

Some people use the term to mean they are so stoic that the material world doesn't matter to them
Some people use the term to mean they straddle the line before madness which allows them to see patterns and their meaning
but You can't be both ecstatic and tranquil
And they use religious to mean you follow group think and obey the list of things they decided are ethical,
So irreligious to them means individuality and critical thinking
They have to actually make decisions and not rely on people or lists to leave them with default false choices and the false dichotomy rejection of them

Jesus was a great, wise and spiritual man. He rejected the notion of an all knowing entitiy that responds individually to people. Instead he let people focus on becoming the best version of themselves and be free from unnecessary burden. Just like Buddha.
Don't conflate spiritual wisdom with the indoctrinating concept of religion.

Spiritual here, let me explain what we mean:
First of all, since we are not religious, we don’t believe in a strict way of communicating with our creator. For us everything and everyone is a part of god which also means that there is no external god for us. That’s the main difference. Further more, in the case of Jesus, we don’t believe that he ever walked the earth as human but we believe in Christ consciousness. So, Jesus like buddah is a state of mind that we can reach and those holy scriptures show us how. People just misinterpreted those books for the worse.
