Africa, China, and North America have this in common; We can call it "worship" to a White man for the sake of putting it in White man's terminology, but that's really not what it is. It's prayer, but we don't perceive all prayers as being directed at the Creator, neither do Catholics or Episcopalians, where Icons, Saints, and the Virgin are all prayed to, but not held as an object of worship.
Prayer to the ancestors isn't the same as worship, now if you're talking to White man and he doesn't delineate prayer from worship, you can call it that, but, worship means submission. That's not how we treat our ancestors when we pray to them, it's more conversational.

I left money out and asked my ancestor to come in and guide me. A month later I had a dream where a Nigerian man told me hes my ancestor and he practiced Louisiana voodoo (my moms side is from lake charles). He told me hes the ancestor that guides me. Afterwards I took a dna test and sure enough i have Nigerian DNA coming from the lake charles area. I tried looking up genealogy records to see if there's any records of Nigerian people in my family but i didn't find it. What i found is some of my french family is from Canada but the other side lived generations in haiti and eventually owned a coffee bean plantation. During the haitian revolution one of my grandpas was killed (deserved it) and his son and wife fled to new orleans.
This spirit helped me by telling me to get away from someone who wanted to seriously hurt me. He made it a point i knew his spirituality isnt evil that white people demonized it. He also made fun of the notion of voodoo dolls.
