African Spirituality Made Simple

African Spirituality Made Simple

What is African spirituality? Or, better yet, how can we grasp the basic principles of African spirituality, without being spooked or dismissive? In this episode, African spirituality as an idea and as a life-way is made intelligible in plain language, using the analogy of water and a few props. The pathway to understanding African cultural forms and norms starts with spiritual culture.

  1. Whenever I listen to you I feel I am listening to sanity, which is rare on these platfroms. LOL I have exploring the concept of personhood in terms of non human beings in indigenous cultures. In terms of your threefold nature when the river is the physical manifestation (ice) of a more fundamental animating force (gas), would the personhood (god/spirit) of the river be the water? Because there is a clear difference between a purely abstract force and a person, in terms of how human beings would relate to it. If the natural world and the cosmos is seen in terms of a diversity of personalities the element of communication, interaction and agency enters. Persons are not just some abstract forces to be used and exploited for selfish purposes and it was the classification of black peoples as non persons that allowed for the enslavement and exploitation of an entire race of people.

  2. Most excellent presentation! I have always wanted to be able to create a chart of an idea and explain it the powerful way that you did! Awesome! Thank you so much! You’re a great teacher!✊🏾💕🥰

  3. My brother, I am so grateful that I found your channel. This is explained so simply. I am a black woman born in America, somehow I have and feel such a connection to my people on the continent of Africa.. the Womb-land. You have a new follower and sharer. There are some teachings that are spoken in Ahkan. Wish they had subtitles..Lol
