1. The Solar Nebula Collapse
Our solar system began as a vast, cold interstellar cloud. A nearby disturbance (such as a supernova) caused this cloud of hydrogen, helium, and cosmic dust to gravitationally collapse. Over millions of years, these small grains grew into larger chunks called planetesimals. These kilometer-sized space rocks continuously collided and merged under their own gravity to build up larger planetary bodies, including early Earth. [1]
3. Planetary Differentiation
As proto-Earth grew from violent, high-energy collisions, it became incredibly hot and completely melted. This allowed a process called differentiation to take place: [1]
