I believed in Christ until I was in 9th grade. In 8th grade I was in Catholic school and went to church every Sunday. I was an avid reader however and could read at a college grade reading level. I tried to read the Good Book as literature in 7th or 8th grade. Yes I was THAT devout. I thought it was horrifying, but I was forbade from questioning. New Mexico waits until a person is old enough to consent with Christ (about 14) for confirmation. There is a reason most places don't wait nearly that long. They don't want you to really take a hard look at what you are accepting. In 9th grade I went to public school and was placed into the gifted program. I learned critical thinking. I wanted to go that same year and finish confirmation, but when I brought university level reasoning to interpret church doctrine, it just made people uncomfortable. I was mocked as a doubting Thomas. I left, walked out and started a path of true enlightenment. I learned physics, history, etc and traveled the country.
You made the analogy of demons vs. Schizophrenia. I think there is a case for a spiritual reform perhaps with medication as a buffer and with the right kind of skills and discipline training a person could be repaired in essence. However because a person has lived in that chaos and has the capacity to exist in it will that door ever be shut to them?

It's interesting how so many theologians are athiests or agnostics. It's because they really know the Bible, unlike most Christians who never read the book and only know the parts that are read to them in church or the events they've seen depicted in movies

"Did God really say…?". Satan's troops keep marching on … for now. You could sum up this video with the phrase, "you can't see the forest for the trees". Some of the trees are all the ungodly authors, the questionable ungodly online seminaries, the various ungodly YouTubers, ungodly teachers and teachings, and other ungodly information and misinformation (you don't learn Godly things from ungodly people); some of the trees are cultural differences, denominational differences, worship differences, historical differences, opinion differences, free-will differences, gender differences, conservative differences, liberal differences, peer pressure differences, personal differences, bias differences, financial desires, narcissistic desires, and vengeful desires, etc. Being amongst the trees can block the view of the forest. You can't visualize the beauty of the Godly forest through the lens of the ungodly trees. Garbage in, garbage out. God will eventually thin out and clear the ungodly from Godly. Then, everyone will be able to see the forest but only the Godly trees will remain.
The science and the explanations we've learned over time are also just the way the world is presented to us. Limited but shows things are as they are. There doesn't need to have an explanation to how things to live but it can help and will be limited.
If God is all-powerful and wants a personal relationship with you — why does that relationship require a human interpreter standing between you and him? It's a legitimate question. The Pope, the Imam, the Pastor, the Rabbi — these are all humans claiming special authority to tell you what an infinite being meant when he said something thousands of years ago. That's a remarkable amount of power to hand to a person.

As a European, it is interesting to note how religion in the USA has developed very differently. I live in the highly secular Netherlands where deconstruction already started in the 19th century and even before. Those few people who consider themselves christian today rarely take the Bible in a literal way.

Very good points made here. The key to being good Christians is to not question it. My life would be easier if I still went along with it all (and the associated politics) , but that's not being true to myself or anyone else. Strangley enough, my journey started with studying NDEs which led to more questions after seeing the conflicts there in search of the truth. Didn't take long for the whole facade to fall after FINALLY asking the hard questions.
A very thoughtful presentation. Someone said,”The easiest way to make an atheist is to have them read the Bible.” That process began in me at 12. I grew up a Methodist in the Deep South. I was taught about love, inclusion, helping those in need, honesty and integrity. I found no faults with this. I learned rituals, hymns, and saw our family as part of a caring community. But, sermons were dull. So I drew on the bulletins. Dad was thoughtful, declaring that drawing or daydreaming was ok, but when 12, I was old enough to attend to it. So, at 12, I found the 3rd thing I could do in church, and Dad accepted it. I began the look at the hymn book, note the writers and date written, and to read what the words said. And, began reading the Bible. I didn’t have to go very far before I found alternate versions of stories, duplicates, contradictions, and a dark god who knew nothing about Methodism. I asked questions, but kept my doubts private. Then I read Mark Twain’s, Letters from the Earth. Then Kurt Vonnegut. I began to know I wasn’t alone, and I began to look at the world with its racism, separate water fountains, the emergence of fervent evangelicalism, the fundamentalist simplicity and condemnation of others, the peace movements, Kent State. I ended up being a biological psychiatrist with lots of training in several psychotherapies. At Duke, the Divinity School was grueling, and we had plenty of patients struggling with religious issues. My lifetime in church allowed be to see them, hear them and hang in there with them . In trying to understand their struggles, I read more, found mentors like Merton Kelsey, Margaret Mead, and found a Jungian mentor and therapist. I set up practice in the Deep South (back home in Louisiana!), where, among other things, I became known as being comfortable dealing with religious issues, but wasn’t a “Christian counselor” nor a “A Christian Psychiatrist.” Fascinated by religion’s impact, my wife and I sampled several churches, and have now been members for 45+ years. But the Sunday School class is our home. It is chock full of long term Methodists, former Baptists, Mormons, Catholics, Presbyterians, Jews, and a Greek Orthodox, and a few atheists. There are no topics to avoid. In my practice,I had the usual mix of patients with the usual diagnoses, but also had a steady stream of college students from a liberal arts college with a religious education department. Conservative kids from the South were suddenly hearing biblical history and critical analysis for the 1st time, and began having high anxiety, anger, and depression. A bit later in my career, several ministers from several liberal denominations wanted me to lead a therapy group of doubting clergy. I’ve read most of the “4 Horsemen of Atheism “ and many others. I’ve been pleased with the selection of atheists, freethinkers, and humanists I’ve found on utube, including my recent find of YOU! I’m 78 now, and still learning. Keep up the good work!
When I was young I told myself I wanted to be worthy of being sainted, while my brother went off to seminary school and got a degree in theology and philosophy. After many years later of truth seeking individually, and without any prior discussion of the topic we both admitted to each other that we were atheist.

I've spent a lot of time studying Christianity with the hope that I would be convinced that it is real, or at least partly true, and I came to the conclusion that a.) God is in fact NOT good and is actually evil, or b.) It's all made up. It's easy to get sucked into the facade at first and think it's so great, but if you actually dig deep it's not good stuff.

For me, the entirety of the faith is built on three questions. 1. Did Jesus exist and claim to be God? 2. Was Jesus Crucified under the Roman Empire and Pontius Pilate? 3. Did he rise from the dead? For me, the entirety of the faith rests on those three questions
