Enchanted Objects: Design, Human Desire, and the Internet of

This talk was given at a local event, produced independently of the Conferences. Some believe the future will look like more of the same—more smartphones and apps. David Rose has a different vision: technology that atomizes, combining itself with the objects that make up the very fabric of daily living. Such technology will be woven into the background of our environment, enhancing human relationships and channeling desires for omniscience, long life, and creative expression. The enchanted objects of fairy tales and science fiction will enter real life.

David Rose is an award-winning entrepreneur, author, and instructor at the MIT Lab. His research focuses on making the physical environment an interface to digital information. His inventions have been featured at the Museum of Modern Art, covered in The New York Times and WIRED, and even parodied on the Colbert Report.

  1. Is coming harmonized new augmented & comportable life since from connected by IoT. Is really felt good if we live in magician world like harry potter. There is

  2. I do like the idea of simplifying the technology so rather than having one device that is mediocre at many things the objects can be good at just one specific task

  3. i like the idea of imbedding technology in many objects to further excel in their purposes (e.g. umbrella weather report): it frees more of our time and attention for other things. This is an important point: the digital age has essentially given us the opportunity to live longer lives; it's a shame that people often take it for granted, and blow away their time.
