"Jesus's message was so simple & easy to implement"
robin I think that was what the pastor meant by "lazy reasons". It is not an easy road to know God. Knowing the truth is never easy and following the truth isn't either. Jesus' words "where two or more are gathered together.." IS what church is. Church is not a building but a gathering of people to worship. Due to civilization it has become necessary to build a structure for the church to worship in without being exposed to the elements is all.
This "pastor" is incorrect. Jesus' words "where two or more are gathered together.." IS what defines church. Church is not a building but a gathering of people to worship. Due to civilization it has become necessary to build a structure for the people who worship god (church) to worship in to shelter them from the elements. The early church used to gather together to break bread and Jesus explicitly asks them to do it in memory of him which they and their descendents have done ever since.
Choosing to depart from this is choosing to depart from a direct command from God the Son. The good;ly pastor is spreading false doctrine and we must pray for him:
"if anyone leads one of these little ones to sin it would be better if he tied a millstone around his neck…"
Pray for him and those who he leads brothers and sisters.
I don't think he is a real teacher. The point about going to church is not the building itself. It is firstly the fellowship "where two or more are gathered". The sharing in that meeting of the faithful (sharing material and spiritual food) as well as a means of passing on our Christian traditions to our progeny to preserve it for Jesus' second coming. What the pastor says sounds nice beacuse it's easy. But it's not what God wants from us. This type of spirituality is how Cain displeased God.
"God does not dwell in man made temples"
He dwells where WE meet in His name. Don't confuse eastern philosophy with Christianity. Their worldviews are very different about the nature of God.
"NEVER give your inner power to religious authority"
No where in Christianity is this found. Jesus said to submit to the authorities to that in your obedience the grace of God will be manifest.
"Be in harmony with each other, nature and Spirit"
More eastern philosophy NOT Christian theology. It's a cop out
Funny how someone left so many comments and no one likes them. lol.
Have just watched the whole show on TLC SOUL SUNDAY, and I am lifted. I truly am.
We each have our opinions, I choose mine from a place of love and just accept that you are where you are with your thoughts.
What does the Word of God say about this topic? That is what matters, not some man's opinion. This is what it says. "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. "(Hebrews 10:25) The book of Hebrews lets us know that God wants believers gathering together, whether its in a building or a home or park , etc doesn't matter. The church is a group of believers. Obviously, because we are a body. The body needs the other parts to function properly. We all have different gifts and we all need each other in this world to comfort each other and strengthen each other. I haven't been going to church lately, but I know that eventually I need that fellowship.
I am not religious and do not consider myself a part of any church. I was raised catholic, spent a considerable amount of time exploring christianity and am now leaning more towards atheism but I am still somewhat spiritual in my own way and believe in some supernatural things. I suppose I would be considered agnostic since I can't totally discard the notion of a creator. That's something we simply cannot prove or disprove.
The meaning of life is evident to me. Our purpose while we're here is to love and inspire one another and to constantly improve the quality of life on this planet by nourishing talent and developing culture, advancing technology and living in true harmony. This argument of "my religion is this" and "my god is that" is what's separating us as a species and bringing this world to it's end. Which is what I know all you religious people truly want ie. Kingdom Come. I truly believe that religion above racism and politics is the final frontier to conquer so we can truly achieve world peace.
AMEN ED BACON!! LOVE HIM
How freaking REFRESHING to hear a religious person being open, real and non judgmental. Pleasantly surprised here.
This man reminds me of Bishop John Shelby Spong–they're two leaders who, while practicing a certain religious tradition, actually "get it" that their path of faith isn't for everyone. The idea that divinely-created humans would be homogeneous in any sense but especially in terms of something as important and deep as spirituality would be insulting to any deity worth his or her salt. Bravo, sir.
I'm 62 and I still don't know what "spiritual" even means. Seems to mean something different depending on who you ask.
That the kind of thinking that gets you in trouble.
