Sometimes a testimony begins in a place of absolute desperation. figleaf78 shares that before following Jesus, he was drinking, smoking, living for the world, and far from God. One night, he says he had a near-death experience where he struggled to breathe, felt his body becoming cold, experienced tunnel vision, and became convinced he was about to die.
He also says he heard what he understood to be demonic laughter around him and believed he was facing death without God. Because those details come from his personal experience, I would receive them as testimony rather than as independently verified facts about what was happening spiritually. But the heart of his story is clear: in that moment of fear and desperation, he cried out to Jesus for help.
Romans 10:13 (WMB) says, βFor, βWhoever will call on the name of YHWH will be saved.ββ That verse reminds us that the gospel is not reserved for people who have cleaned themselves up first. Jesus came for sinners, and none of us earns our way into His mercy by becoming good enough before we come to Him.
What also stands out is what happened afterward. He says he suddenly wanted to read the Bible, go to church, and understand the God he had previously ignored. That kind of change in direction matters because biblical faith is not simply about having a frightening or emotional experience. Genuine faith involves repentance, trust in Christ, and a life that begins turning toward Him.
No one is too far gone to call on Jesus. No addiction is too deep, no past is too dark, and no failure is too final. We do not come to Christ because we have made ourselves worthy. We come because we need mercy, forgiveness, and a Savior.
Have you ever had a moment that made you realize just how deeply you needed Jesus?
