#63 Cairo George: The “Waikato Warrior” | From Near-Death

Former professional boxer Cairo George finished his career with 18 wins from 20 fights and multiple national and international titles, before moving into coaching and building a strong stable of professional fighters, including David Nyika.

In this episode, Dave sits down with his longtime friend to talk about walking away from boxing as a teenager, the motorbike crash that brought him back on track, his journey through the professional ranks, and the transition from fighter to coach.

A powerful kōrero about second chances, discipline, family, and finding purpose beyond your own career.

  1. Cairo would have to be New Zealand’s most delusional boxer ever. He claimed to be World Class yet if you look at his record, in 20 Fights he fought Five guys on debut and Thirteen guys with losing records. The two times he took an extremely MINOR step up In class from his usual debutants and blokes with losing records he lost to seasoned journeyman with 13 losses Stevie Ferdinandus and after feasting on more low level opposition with losing records he then lost to 40 yr old Jamie hilt who was having his retirement fight.
