Some Near Death Experiences known as "Peak in Darien Experiences" involve encounters with dead people who were still thought to be alive at the time, or were complete strangers to the experiencer. For Example, Cardiologist Pim Van Lommel from the Netherlands has documented the case of a Dutch man who, whilst undergoing cardiac arrest, encountered his dead grandmother and a strange man who looked at him lovingly, but whom he couldn't recognize. Over a decade after this experience, his mother, whilst on her deathbed, confessed to her son that he'd actually been born from an extramarital affair, and that her husband wasn't his real father. His biological father was actually a Jewish man who'd been killed during the German Occupation of the Netherlands in World War 2. She also gave her son a photograph she had of his biological father, and he immediately recognized him as the strange man who'd been looking at him lovingly during his Near Death Experience over a decade prior.

I fully disagree this is blurring the definition of a NDE, its literally called near death experience for a reason. I fully am on board with NDEs including ‘brushes with death’ and extreme sickness where the heart doesn’t have to stop (this is usually the definition) but very close to death but dont die, like stopped breathing. the key is its your near death AND where one leaves the body prematurely. The spiritual part can be seeing spirits or simply seeing the body as not the self or something else profound.
15:55 nope. this is what is refered to as a DISSOCIATIVE state in psychology and IMO iks akin to astral projection when awake usually triggered by extreme stress or states of mind, PTSD etc. YES they can be combined with a spiritual experience but this is not an NDE by any stretch. when this guys in a rage he is having a dissociative psychotic-spiritual experience, nothing to do with death.
I was visited and healed/comforted after prayer by a spirit as a kid, did I have a NDE, no., ‘spiritual experience’
I had a dissociative state where I was removed from my body and my body froze, breath held, not an NDE, —‘dissociative state’ triggered by —soul recognition.
I also left my body for awhile when i hit a tree head on I saw coming and thought it my end, I returned later to my body and called for help, not an NDE but what i call a ‘brush with death’, —outta body experience.

I stopped breathing and went to my friend’s dream and saw my body as not myself with pity but was jerked back in when I was prompted to start getting burning breath back. —*THIS is close to an NDE, but my heart never stopped, so its an OBE outta body experience**

I was robbed at knife point when I was 20. I didn't have an NDE or OBE but my consciousness operated at a different speed or similar to some of the experiences.
To say your life flashed before your eyes is a real thing.
The holdup must have happened in minutes but I had all the time in the world to consider my short life, my imminent death, and what I should've done differently in the scenario.
Had nightmares for ten years till I finally faced and accepted being murdered in a dream. The mind (?!) is astounding! 🧚🏻♀️

I wonder why so many people readily accept near-death experiences as genuine without verification from credible third parties. Dr. Holden is clearly a rigorous scientific thinker, rightly emphasizing how essential such verification is.
