TV host Siya Mkhize bridges the gap between African

TJ sits down with spiritual advisor, consultant, and TV host Siya Mkhize to bridge the gap between African spirituality, modern contemporary living, and South African politics.

Siya breaks down the universal principles of African spirituality and makes a compelling comparison to elite private schools like St. John’s College, arguing that their traditions of naming houses and sports fields after deceased founders is fundamentally the exact same practice as African ancestral commemoration. He also dispels the myth that honoring ancestors always requires spilling blood, explaining how simple acts of remembrance hold equal spiritual weight.

The conversation takes a hard-hitting turn as Siya unpacks the spiritual implications of land theft. He explains the concept of Umkhokha (a recurring pattern of tragedy or ) and reveals why white families who possess stolen land are not immune to severe spiritual consequences. Siya also delves into the politics of naming, explaining why it is spiritually dangerous for black people to operate in buildings or on streets named after their historical oppressors.

Finally, Siya drops absolute gems on navigating Umjolo (intimacy), warning about “spiritual STDs” (Ilumbo) and the dangers of absorbing dark energy from intimate partners. He challenges the breakdown of the black nuclear family—calling out “deadbeat uncles” who force women into hyper-masculine roles—and makes a shocking claim about the Apartheid government leaving dark muthi inside the halls of Parliament.

  5. Okuthusayo kakhulu is that oTheo Shepstone bafika bafunda konke okwethu then took that knowledge and combined it with their spirituality. Babethela phez' kwalomhlaba wakithi. It's no surprise we are here, in sheer limbo. 😢

  7. Seeing how they systemically damaged Mama Winnie Mandela's name throughout the years, do you think renaming Willem Nicole RD after her is a form of spiritual sabotage? Of all the streets or monuments they could've named after her, why would they choose a road notorious for road rage and violence? I hope the stats have improved since the rename. Thank you for the amazing episode. uMkhulu uSiya Mkhize is amazing. Very insightful overall and all-around.

  8. People who abandon their land and homelands and refuse to cultivate it, refuse to work it and instead want to squat in the sand of cape town on land they steal, such people will suffer and continue to suffer. We will not pay for u no more.
