Psychology of Kink Episode1: What shapes desire?

Psychology of Kink Episode1: What shapes desire?

What is desire? What Shapes desire?
Moderator Aubrey Aust and her guests, Goddess Viktoria Sway and Mistress Madeline Pryor discuss the topic and dispel kink as the root of a trauma.

Core ideas
● Kink is not “random.” It often functions as a symbolic solution to unresolved relational or
emotional tensions
● Many kinks address needs that were once unsafe to want openly
● Understanding desire psychologically reduces shame and moral panic
Moderator questions
1. When you hear the word desire, what do you think people usually misunderstand about it?
2. What are some of the most common emotional or relational needs you see people trying to meet
through BDSM dynamics?
3. Can you give an example of a desire that might seem “strange” or taboo socially, but makes clear
psychological sense when you look underneath it?
4. When someone claims a kink identity — “I’m submissive,” “I’m a domme” — what does that do
psychologically? What does it stabilize or organize?

  1. Woahh what she said at 9:14 has blown my mind a bit.
That really makes sense in terms of my psyche. I'm really good at expressing myself and giving myself attention, but I don't get enough attention and energy from others which is why I crave it
