What happens after ego death?
Why does spiritual awakening sometimes lead to a quiet desire not to exist — not as a wish to die, but as exhaustion with identity itself?
There is a phase after spiritual awakening that almost no one talks about. The ego dissolves. Meaning collapses. Motivation fades. And instead of bliss, you feel neutral, detached, or strangely disconnected from life.
You’re not suicidal.
You’re not necessarily depressed.
You may simply no longer identify with the version of yourself that once chased goals, approval, or survival.
Jung described individuation as a process of psychological reconstruction. After ego death, the old mask (persona) falls away. But the new architecture of the self takes time to emerge. That gap can feel like emptiness, neutrality, or even a desire not to exist as a defined identity.
If these feelings feel overwhelming, isolating, or unsafe, please reach out to someone you trust or a qualified mental health professional. Psychological transformation should never be navigated alone.

What has been the hardest or most confusing part of your awakening so far – the emptiness, the loss of motivation, the identity shift, or something else entirely?
Relieved of the burden of judgement…..it's all good.❤
I know this for years. As result, I don't care about anything no more.
People, work, whatever, sensless.
I'm just doing time and, it doesn't matter no more.
I'm just tired and would quite like to go home.
To all you beautiful people in these comments, hold tight and don't give up, a new frequency of life is arriving and you are the tip of the spear. FEAR NOT, you are remembering. Love and light to you all.
It's dealing with ignorance from people that have been systemic program. Is the hardest part of it all.
Yes this all very well describes how I've been feeling in my life past year and now. I've turned my focus on God. Im reading the Bible and praying more
I feel like this is happening on purpose and I learned to put my hope in the Lord. It's a long painful yet bliss journey I feel like I'm on but I'm still hanging on to Jesus. New experience for me I've never thought before that I need Jesus in my life. Now I understand I cannot live without him. I thank him for waking me up even though I still go through a lot of struggles.❤
The problem is what the point? What's the point of life, of fighting, when everything will colapse sooner or later. Life is too hard. It tortured you with beautiful women, amazing cars, etc. Life creates obstacles if you really want something. It is like torture. Change is inevitable, boredom. A beautiful girl will get old and ugly. When you awake you loose the will to fight, because you realise everything is temporary. It is a constant battle, even for not being alone, and getting things to do that really excites you. Life is about surviving. Most if us don't live life to the fullest, otherwise you will get broke, and end up, spending your life paying debts
Appreciate the insight @Fractal Wisdom, I have been wondering why I'm even here. I was pronounced dead years ago. When I woke up, I felt like a 'horse without blinders'. Still trying to figure it out.
Hi, and Thank You. You have just explained the past 9 months of my life, after my awakening. 💫
I am in this moment right now, and boy it is confusing. I do not know who are what I am…………………..
This desire, this is also an idea, just a limiting, exhausting idea, energy draining and melancholic.
Ego is identification with thoughts that represent a "someone". If you get a feeling that this emotion is yours, you are identified with it.
When identification with thoughts stops, you no longer feel it is happening to you, your vantage point is outside of it and you recognise those thoughts and feelings like you would experience rain or sound. You never identified with rain or sounds, that's why you see them separate or alien to you. But feelings and thoughts cannot be more intimate with you, that's because you think they are yours. No, you only believe them thoroughly and blindly that they are yours. And this is all because they say I. I wish i stop existing. The word I, that letter is an imposter. It pretends to be you. It directly refers to the light of awareness. And you are not the person it describes.
im not even chasing the wind anymore. im zero, less than empty…dont know what to do.immmmmm LOST BUT TOTALLY WITH JESUS!
ITS 7/26 IM IN TOLEDO. LOVE TO MEET SUMONE LIKE ME.
I find these words resonant but also misleading. The feelings described after the collapse of self are there, it is true. However, there is no new organizing center that appears. It is simply life happening without a center. Ir is cruel to portend a hope that is impossible to occur.
Simplicity without effort.
Lying here mindlessly watching random videos is about as simplistic and effortless as I can manage anymore.
I thank God for my 3 dogs. They get me out of bed to walk feed entertain. They are all i have. Totally centered on their wellbeing. People are shallow and disappointing. In fact i cannot say i have a genuine friend who could help in a case of emergency.
It's not a phase.
Some people simply hate being here.
I’m just fed up with life as nothing more than work, pay bills, work, pay bills, over and over and over. What is even the point? It’s just stupid. I don’t want to do this stupidity anymore. That’s where I am at. If I had no family I think I’d just walk away from everything. I could not care less about money, possessions, love. I just don’t give a 💩 anymore.
As Christ said: die to yourself in order to live. Dying to the little self; the Ego in order to allow the greater Self; Cosmic Consciousness or God to manifest. Of course, as the Muslims say, there is no God but God; we do not become God we become one with God; one with Universal or Cosmic Consciousness. Jesus said: Why do you call me good, only God is good. He was one with God through his Christ or Cosmic Consciousness, One as all Avatars of the East and Saviors or Saints of the West are with Krishna/Christ or Cosmic Consciousness. What Jung was interested in was connecting the human Ego with the Subconscious Mind and recovering what it had repressed to aid healing as repression never sleeps. The subconscious is a better name than the unconscious, although our Ego may not be aware of it, it is aware and recording all the time; that is how habits take hold.
Be careful what you do as you may find yourself doing it whether you want to or not. Jung, for the most part, did not address the Superconscious Mind, although he did not as Freud did ignore religion, he felt it was necessary to healing as the definition of religion is: That to which we are bound, which is Consciousness, which is God, which is “the hard problem:” for atheist philosophers. Jung did studies of many societies and all with the possible exception of the Material West is based on an Entity as fundamental to Reality. In the Material West, in Atheism elements are fundamental to all of Reality, not just to physical reality, or matter in one dimension only having created from nothing and evolving all randomly to non-existent prototypes. this is what makes Consciousness a hard problem for Atheist philosophers. The religious perspective is three macro dimensions: Consciousness; fundamental and named God; Mind: subtly elemental and Matter or the Elements; densely elemental with Mind and Matter emerging at the level of quantum events. Consciousness as fundamental does not emerge, it is accessed, This makes it ‘the hard problem” for atheist materialists. Good. They had given us Communism and were all set to give us Trans humanism next as the Anthropic; an imitation of life approaches. The Church as with the Dark Occult before the Age of Reason and Communism in modern times will banish Trans humanism to the trash where it belongs.
