The reporting of NDE's such as this one impresses me. There is however one thing I do not understand: how come these experiences end up in memory, since in general these experiences are out-of-body? Does that mean that memory is not just excited neurons, it is something that transcends our body?
It's a lovely warming message.
It leaves me wondering,
If past 'people'/consciousness live(s) on, where does a being start? Is there an ever growing number?
If I find my parents, they find theirs, and so on backward, what binds me to 20 generations back? It feels to me like it would have to be something beyond the individual

We keep hearing very similar stories from so many – and from every country – every culture, every religion. There must be some truth to it.
This story DOES give me hope that there is something.

Neither of us had any religious beliefs. I hoped it was true, but did wonder if it was some kind of projected hope on his part after watching her suffering.

If family members harmed you , do you really want to have them 'waiting for you' to greet you in the afterlife?

I read Dr. Alexander’s book about this experience about 20 years ago. I believe that he was chosen by God to have this experience so that he could share it with all of us. His position as a neurosurgeon and understanding of the brain gives enhanced credibility to his story.

The individual unconscious is a "place" of infinite possibility as it is connected with the spiritual realm. I just wonder if what people are referring to as "near death experiences" is the dropping away of the conscious mind which creates the conditions for the unconscious material to be experienced
My dad was military police in the Pacific on ships and then finally on Saipan. But he had last rites twice and lived which is when they decided maybe he should be on an island. I wonder if your dad ever treated him because he had to lyrical when they were ready to give him last rights as a Catholic he didn’t die.

I am not fearful of death, never have been. Now that I have read much about being an immortal soul and that my physical body is just for decades, I am prepared for my journey to eternity any moment that God calls. Meanwhile, I do the best I can on earth, to give back to a loving God.
He didn't discover consciousness is not in the brain. Clue #1 if someone is telling you what it's like to die, they didn't die.

Disappointed that the part of the story revealing who was in the picture sent to him was the same angelic being that he met in his NDE — his deceased biological sister Betsy whom he had never met. Not very good editing. It leaves out an important and powerful part of the story.

When your body systems are shutting down and your brain is running out of oxygen, it starts to hallucinate and can give you pretty powerful experiences. But those are not real, and there is nothing supernatural going on. Sorry about that. It's very nice though that after NDE many people don't fear death anymore and can have peace of mind in their later years.

I’m a big believer in the afterlife and have listened to hundreds of accounts of NDE’s and for the most part they are totally credible. I did a deep dive into Eben’s story (I’m a physician myself) and I have to say there are holes in his story and testimonies by treating physicians (the ER doctor that first treated for eg) that don’t fit his narrative. Eben was under investigation for medical mishaps at Harvard and was either going to or had lost his privileges-just before his “experience”. Let’s just say I’m very sus about his account. And again-this is coming from a true believer in the afterlife. Take his story with a grain of salt-there are many others that are much more credible. Unfortunately his medical background-esp as a neurosurgeon -has given him gravitas and helped his notoriety wrt afterlife experiences.

When my deceased sister came to me she sat me in a beautiful park like area with endless blue sky – it was utterly beautiful. She told me she could only visit for a short time and she had to have permission to visit me and her guide had arranged for me to be there in that place. It was ephemeral – like not really touchable but incredibly beautiful. She gave me her message of love and asked me to stop grieving because she could not go onward if I did. She said she had made many mistakes and she had to work them out in order to move on. We hugged – the first time we had ever hugged in our life! From that day forward I never grieved for her again and have had a profound understanding of the after life and the meaning of life.

For a really great read on the subject of the brain, the mind and consciousness, read, Dr. Michael Egnor's book, "The Immortal Mind: A Neurosurgeon"s Case for the Existence of the Soul." I read it last year and plan on re-reading it this year. Dr. Egnor takes you through case after case. It's really an insightful and amazing read, worth your time if this subject interests you as it does me.

My husband met with a tragic accident 3 months back with severe DAI. He opens his eyes, but no consistent reaponses yet. Doctors are saying that it's very hard for him to recover. But I want to give him the chance to come back to life. I really want him back just to love him 110 x more than he did to me. It's ok if he can't show it to me. I really really hope he can come back. I hope God heals my husband also the way he healed you. Please pray for my husband's recovery. He has 2 young kids, 11 and 3 years old who asks me daily when they can meet their dad. I don't know what to say. I don't even know how i will live
Its odd you saw the source as a ball of darkneed and not light as its described in most other NDEs. I think he should trysome psychedelics and see how they compare to his experience.
I live in Charlotte, North Carolina. My father was a surgeon in Mooresville, North Carolina and was in the Pacific Theatre in the Guinea. I suspect your father and my father knew each other. I’ve transcribed every letter he wrote to my mother every day during that time. I have many photographs of New Guinea. And the base there. Would love to talk to you. My dad was in New Guinea in WWII also. He was a medic. I wonder if they crossed paths.
But what did he learn while there? Okay, love abounds everywhere. We should all love one another. But what else did he learn? His guides said they would tell him. What did they say? Or do I have to buy his book to find out?
I simply disagree . I was under anesthesia with Ketamine . I also experienced a deep opening with consciousness. I could think clearly and rationally . It was not a hallucinating high but a firm grasp within my mind .
It was because Ketamine cut off all outside interference including bodily functions .
This isnt about God or spirituality. You are simply imprinting your preconceived beliefs on to it .
Near death is not on the same level as actual death . The Brain and consciousness and their inner workings are still fields of study in its early stages .
I would recommend holding off on categorizing these experiences within your religious or spiritual leanings . You may find yourself highly disappointed.
I love hearing stories where the brain wasn't chemically normal yet it produced a similar NDE as a normal state brain.
