Im afraid no group has been able to replicate the results of the study. Coming to such a radical conclusion in one dubious study is bad form. Studying consciousness is interesting on its own we don’t need to abandon all empirical methodology to do so.

Further, the brain may be a consciousness filter, used to manage and limit the amounts encountered. I'm interested in the implications for brain malfunctions such as schizophrenia and dementias. If a damaged brain is a machine, it should be repairable with no harm to consciousness. It would follow that it processes consciousness without affecting it. To delve further, every place that supports life would only have to develop an organ (brain) to deal with consciousness to join the undoubtedly vast network of beings that share the awareness. Life in the cosmos may include limitless forms. Any place that supports life would only need to wait for evolution (or intervention) to bring it a "limiter" to join the "family." The "internet" may be a primitive illustration.
