  1. the way I approach this would be to tell a person okay so if you're spiritual which Spirit are you spiritual with because if it's not the spirit of God then you are dealing with unclean spirits there's the spirit of the holy Spirit which is God which Jesus is born of the holy Spirit unclean spirits the unclean spirits are demons basically they're the unclean disembodied Spirit of the nephilim giant which is The offspring of the fallen Angel on Earth woman which are demons basically. If your "spiritual" and that with is not the spirit of God the holy Spirit then you're straight talking with demons. Praise Jesus

  2. My mom and my little voice tell me that title statement is a lame attempt to please people but thats a lazy copout. The only one to please that matters is God, our 8year old and 80year old selves. Cmon everyone suck it up make a choice and stand by that choice. Walk the walk if your going to talk the talk. No wussy s Allowed

  3. You can still be a follower of Christ without being religious, Because when you actual have a relationship with Christ its more spiritual than anything. When you actually study the Bible for yourself you realize that its not about being religious at all. Matter of fact Jesus biggest opposition were pharisees and sadducees which were religious groups that him killed. You can be a religious and not have a true relationship with Christ or not even know the True Gospel of Christ.

  4. Walking on a spiritual path involves lots of commitment. Much more actually to just have BLIND FAITH in the Bible or the teachings of Christianity. The difference lies in that walking a spiritual path not just involves accepting a set of beliefs and teachings about spiritual subjects, but actually doing lots of PRACTISE. lot. Actually doing hours of long practises be it meditation, contemplation or other kind. In a religion there are no practises and have to rely on spoken or written words without any evidence whatsoever. Also looking back at the history of Christianity how many had to die and suffer, how they treat homosexuals, how their priests raping and abusing children constantly one can understand why more and more people distance themselve from this toxicity and choose a path that can actually lead them to peace, (true) knowledge and enlightenment.

  5. I'm spiritual, but not religious. I can't be religious because I belong to no religion. I say spiritual because I seek a spiritual connection with God that requires no church membership.

  6. We have to worship the LORD, in Spirit and Truth… Christianity is not a religion, but relationship… Religion does divide, and places labels on you like I'm baptist, I'm Lutheran, I'm this or that – not good…

  7. Jokes on you. Spirituality and Religion is different. There’s a difference. People that can’t respect it and have a hard time understanding will never let anything go

  8. You can believe in ghosts/spirits etc (without being tied to a particular set of faith/religion) "Spiritual, not Religious" also doesnt necessary mean you "pick & chose" from all religious "smorgasbords" (like some in the New-Age movement does)

So far i dont think humanity have agreed on a "true religion" (nor have we reached the conclusion that Islam is "not a religion")

  9. This was hard to watch/hear. As a pastor? I expect a better thought process if you’re trying to lead people. Most people that are spiritual and not religious aren’t saying this because they don’t want “strings”, it’s actually because people like you who think your way of thinking is right and is the only way when that is in fact not true. Have you read the whole bible? Have you read it multiple times front to back? Most of the people proclaiming to be Christian don’t live by the word but with judge others for any and everything they deem inappropriate. Saying I’m not religious is not hurting anyone so why is it your concern? Furthermore, most of us that say we’re spiritual and not religious is because we actually practice what we preach and sometimes the things we practice don’t align to a T with one religion. I.e, I believe we should treat each other the way we all want to be treated and live a modest life but I don’t believe Jesus should be prayed to in the same way you pray to God so therefore I would never claim to be Christian. I believe in living a noble life and not consuming pork but I don’t agree with the outdated views of women that feel oppressive so I’m not claiming to be Muslim. I take what resonated and leave what doesn’t. And lastly, I’m not forced to be amongst people that are hypocrites and judge others constantly because they think a certain sin is greater than another.

  10. It's mainly because religious people are usually biased. They usually think that their religion is the right religion, and ALL of the other religions are wrong. For example, I hear this phrase quite often. The only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ? So, all of the other people that believe in other religions, aren't going to go to heaven? I know my God wouldn't do that, and I feel that it is quite close-minded, selfish, and self-centered to even believe such a saying. To be spiritual and not religious means that one is above saying that any one particular religion is better than any other. It's called a spiritual awakening not a religious awakening for a reason. People use religion as another way to separate themselves from others. Which is quite sad to be honest. How could you say pizza is better than tacos if you never ate a taco? That is usually what religious people say, do, think, or believe — one way or another. That is why it is better to be spiritual and not religious, because EVERY human being should be able to go to heaven, not just the ones that YOU think should… But that's just my opinion… What do I know. Thank you for your time!

  11. I'm not religious. I do have relationship though. Religion is and always has been about rules and regulations (the Law). For freedom, Christ has set us free. I encourage believers to cast off the shackles that is religion and focus on relationship with Jesus Christ and His and our Father.

  12. Perhaps saying “I’m spiritual but not religious” implies a desire to feel connected to others and to embrace the human qualities that support living with all its challenges, without feeling compelled to suspend one’s critical thinking by subscribing to dogma through blind faith.

  13. Pastor Mike, thank you so much for bringing the Bible to light and to our attention. And although James said some wonderful words about what religious action looks like… Most people in the world don’t even know that exist, but I will tell you what existed when I grew up, me being in my 60s now… But I used to say, when I was in my 20s, that I was spiritual, but not religious. Because to me, the religions had gone off in such an untruthful money grabbing, bad reputation way that I didn’t wanna be bundled into that look. I knew that my spirituality was with God, the one God that created everything and I definitely knew Jesus was a part of my life then too but I was pretty young and still learning over these past decades of how close I can actually experience Jesus. I also, in my 20s, was studying other religions, looking for words of love to guide me. I knew studying the Bible was important, but it didn’t seem to make sense to me at all, until now nowadays, where people like yourself are online deciphering the Bible for us and I thank you very much for that. I have recently gone to at least five or more churches looking to see if it felt right for me and I still haven’t found a church to dedicate myself to fully. But I have the Lord in my mind & in my heart throughout the day. I wake up with the Lord & I pray through the day to the Lord, and I pray at night to the Lord, mostly filled with gratitude with an an occasional apology for asking for any help for anything, but maybe I’m in some tough situations so I bring it up, but I give it up to him. So I never thought those other things you said about the definition of people saying they’re not religious. I just wanted to be pure of truth and heart that my spirit was with the one God ultimately, and although I was seeking to find all kinds of truth. In the end, I am fully dedicated to Christ, as I tell him daily I give you as much as I can of my free will for you to be with me and in me and around me, to be my shield against the enemy, and to guide me and teach me to be more like you every day ~ Lord thank you Jesus

  14. History has been riddled with individuals and groups committing atrocious acts in the name of religion. It is a stigma which perpetuates a repulsion for many; to those seeking a peace with the divine and not be herded like sheep down a dark path. If more people of faith followed the tenants of love and unity, this would not be such a widely sought answer. Perfect example would be the United States on the early onset of 2025, religion has been the doctrine to magnetize a course of division, many would describe it as hate. Therefore, I am spiritual, not religious will be an answer many will seek with more vigor. It's not enough to say you have the answer, one must behave in such a manner as well. Blessings.

  15. Hey Mike! I get what you are saying, and I can agree with most of your points.
I however do not like to call myself religious, while I am willing to face the repercussions of following Jesus, and I am committed!
Why I hate the word religion is because it has been dragged through the mud and is often really misunderstood (you have mostly covered this point)
To sum it up I’d say you can be a comitted follower of Jesus and fit the good meaning of the word religious without calling yourself religious.
Jesus didn’t bring religion he brought life ultimately.
I am willing to face being called whatever for Jesus, I am willing to die for him, and obey him to death.

  16. This is the worse. The conflicting believes in this mosaic. I had a friend who almost assaulted his parents because he was so mad at the incongruencies in their believes. They didn't even know why they think it, at least with christianity you can point at jesus. And they woukd even gaslight him constantly moving the goalposts. Spirituality is religion, it's just unorganised religion

  17. Religion is made by man, spiriruality comes from an inner drive, explores all relions and for me doesnt mean i do whatever i want and no strings attached. I use methods from all religions to grow in my contact with (the word is very poluted) God. Jezus is your own gide, inside, you follow yourself. Religions are made to devide and conquor. Spirituality and selfrealisation is non comparing, non deviding. All resposability lyes within yourself. So you never point your finger at others, jezus, or who or whatever.

  18. God is a Spirit. If a person truly believes in God, then they are definitely spiritual. Religion is a philosophy, and they are all manmade. Christianity is a religion pure and simple, and it is manmade. Christ never created or established nor sanctioned Christianity or any other religion. Just because at some point in time some man or men chose to add the name or title of "Christ" to the religion that created does not mysterious make Christianity endorsed my Christ or God. This is the Truth! Pray and ask God to open your eyes to this understanding. God is all powerful in every way and in every thing, He is not limited and He is not bound. God is not locked in a box nor locked in a book. God is infinite and free to do and move however He wants. Spiritual is what a God fearing and Christ following believer is, and should not be tied and bound up in religion and it's philosophy. Follow God and not religion (including Christianity) which is manmade philosophy.

True spiritual is of God, although ungodliness can hop on it's own wagon and proclaim it's own brand of spiritual, but does not erraticate the truth and true spirituality.

I am personally a born again God fearing and Christ following believer. I believe in confession and repentance of sins to God, justification, regeneration, born again in Christ, sanctification, Holy Spirit baptism, spiritual gifts and works of the Spirit their continuation into today. Also believe in the fruits of the Spirit, righteousness, clean living, moral behavior, Faith, Truth, Patience, Honesty, Sincerity, treating other with love and respect, and praying for all regardless of the current state or condition. My personal relationship with God began when I was 8 years old, and knelt beside my bed and ask Jesus to forgive my sins. I am now 60 years old, know that when and an 8 year old I prayed that prayer for salvation, that placed me in a Spiritual relationship with God, and not into a religion. The truth is pure and simple that we being created in the image of God makes us spiritual beings. The determine factor is which spirit we allow to sit in the driver's seat of our heart and life and be in control of our spirit and direct us in our journey of life. How could something that is man made and man created philosophy such as religion be desired or wanted to be seated in the driver's seat of our heart and life and entire life and being! Think about it, and pray, then think about it again, and then open up the ears of your spirit and listen to the voice of God speak to you. The One True God of Heaven is Spirit and He is the only one we should ever allow to sit in the driver's seat of our heart and life and be in control of our spirit and entire life. It is about obedience and allowing God to be in complete control of everything!

The is my revelation and understanding from God.

  19. My mother constantly says she is "spiritual and not religious" and "open" to other beliefs. All the time
    But

    1. At the same time, her spiritual beliefs are literally the same as the seventh day Adventist church's beliefs she attends EVERY week

    2. She says this as she bashes my own beliefs (Norse pagan) and had literally just said about 10 minutes ago she didn't believe in paganism. (While she was mentioning one of her neighbors is Muslim to me)

My response to her having a Muslim neighbor was this "ok? And?" She was trying to start an argument, she does this in many ways, and once I made my response she went off with her not believing paganism while clinging to her "spiritual" (but really just Christian) belief

  20. Where do I even begin.. Of course you can be spiritual but not religious. That it is embarrassing for you that you’ve said it and it hurts Your feelings because you are religious, that other people say it, doesn’t matter at all. If you think that you truly are arrogant.

I do not believe in a god or gods. I also think that religion is pretty primitive and we don’t need religion to explain how our world and universe works. We have laws and science.

Besides believing a scipture that ordinary humans have written hundreds to thousands years ago, depending on what scripture we’re talking about) is nothing but naive.

The problem with religion isn’t what god or how many gods we believe in. The problem isn’t whether there is a god or gods or if there are a lack of one.

The problem is however what bad things your religion is telling you to think and bad values to have.

The problem is moreover how you choose to think, behave and to act out because of your religion.

Religion shall never get to dictate anything, whether it’s bad views, bad actions or if it’s how to dress.

And if you don’t folllow this you are threatened with punishments.

That is NOT a religion, that is extremism and must be liquidated immediately.

People have all the right to believe in god or gods. But they never have the right to discriminate, murder people and animals because of their religion. EVER.

A religion that has views where women are not equal to men, homo- and bisexuals are not equal to heterosexuals, where what religion you have does matter and where animals don’t have the right to exist, shall not exist at all.

Religion have obstructed science and killed people because of science through the early years.

I myself am an agnostic. I judge people after their values and behaviour.

If you have good values, don’t discriminate or hurt good people or animals unless it’s self-defense, then you will not get judged by me, no matter what etnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion you believe in.

Good values includes values you got from your religion.

ALL religions where for example women aren’t equal to men, homosexuals are imprisoned, tortured or killed, they are not good views but primitive and completely ignorant values.

As long it’s not facts, keep your religion to yourself, that’s my opinion.

Fact, a historical Jesus probably existed. Fact, Jesus did not walk on water since it is impossible.

Fact, Jesus did not make water into wine by magic. Because magic doesn’t exist.

He may have brewed wine and then changed the container or whatever. Because that is possible.

  21. What makes you think yaweh and some apocalypse preacher was so special? There's tonnes of gods literally thousands because the human brain desires an explanation for stuff it doesn't understand

  22. Question though, I hear people also say often “it’s not religion it’s relationship” – thoughts on this one? I know we are in relationship with Jesus, it just to me for some reason has seemed like kind of a corny way to explain Christianity to someone who may not have too much of a concept on it.

  23. I typically tell people I’m a follower of Jesus, but not religious. The more I learn about and follow Christ, the more I associate the word religion with the church, and not Jesus himself. Religion effectively puts Jesus in a box, outlining what he can and “cannot” do. “He can forgive you of your sins, but casting out demons and healing the sick is witchcraft” would be an example of what someone might hear in church. Churches, religious practices and traditions are not the answer, it’s only Jesus.

  24. When I have said that in the past, I meant I wasn't attached to man made rules I had seen in the church (like a rule not to cut my hair, for example). It didn't mean I wasn't Christian.

  25. I actually think this is a pretty good analysis. One thing I disagree with is I don’t think “the spiritual not religious” label simply exists to be people pleasing. I think that entirely depends on your company. I think Christians, Muslims, atheists and alike will actually have problems with that identification. I think it can actually be a useful descriptor of someone’s spiritual framework because if one’s ideas are non-dogmatic that does lack a qualifying factor of religion in how most people understand it. While if someone does have a metaphysical framework it does differentiate them from atheists and even agnostics. That said I do think it could be argued new age spiritually and it’s different sects and influences do qualify as religious. I don’t agree with the point that the label simply comes from a place of avoiding conflict or to stigmatize religion as a concept, to me it’s a reasonable description.

I do think most of your criticisms are on point when it comes to universalism being in conflict with the beliefs of most religions leaders, seeking often not being concerned with an end, and a lack of concrete spiritual grounding or commitment. At the same time I don’t think that’s necessarily always a problem, I think a speculative and even critical approach to spirituality is good. I think spiritual but not religious people or new Ager witchy types often enjoy Immersing in myth, history, philosophy, meditation, ritual and even science and psychology and that informs their spiritual practice however it looks. Some things may hold to be true until their dying days and other beliefs may change over time. I think most people experience that as they acquire more knowledge. I do think it is important to stay grounded and not lose touch with reality or use spirituality as simple tool for escapism. At the same time I think an openness to I ideas and a willingness to explore theories and use your imagination cannot only be more interesting but a fulfilling approach to life and consciousness. One thing that personally attracted me to spiritually was sacred geometry. Diagrams that can express philosophical, metaphysical and scientific ideas fairly simply.

  26. Maybe people should be religious but not spiritual? Would that help them? Or be closed minded, except for what has been presented to me by my immediate surroundings?
