What does the afterlife actually look and feel like?
In this Vision Rebirth segment, neurosurgeon and near-death experiencer Dr. Eben Alexander describes the extraordinary realms he says he encountered while in a coma.
His journey did not begin in a beautiful heaven. Dr. Alexander says he first experienced what he calls the “earthworm’s-eye view”—a primitive, dark, foreboding realm where he had no memories of any other existence.
Then something changed.
A slowly spinning light appeared, accompanied by what he describes as a perfect musical melody. He says that music became a key part of his journey, allowing him to move through different spiritual levels. This was not ordinary music heard through physical ears, but what he describes as a pure, idealized form of music.
Eventually, Dr. Alexander says he entered what he calls the Gateway Valley.
There, he witnessed thousands of beings dancing in a meadow, pristine forests, waterfalls, sparkling blue pools, children playing, dogs jumping, and enormous celebrations. Above them, angelic choirs sent chants, hymns, and anthems through his awareness.
And according to Dr. Alexander, this heavenly world did not feel dreamlike.
It felt far more real than this world.
He also says this realm existed beyond ordinary Earth time. Birth, death, hardship, love, and everything in between could be understood from a larger perspective, allowing the soul to see how the events of a lifetime contribute to growth.
