If “programmed forgetting” or “the veil” is necessary in order for us to fully engage in this human life (to learn from contrasts, etc.) then why do a small percentage of people like Eben have NDEs and/or reunite with their higher selves through meditation?
Perhaps for some people/souls, they can still fully learn what they came here to learn despite knowledge of their true selves? 🤷🏻♂️
Although you do hear some NDE accounts suggesting that some souls don’t learn everything they came here to learn, so they ended up coming back into another human life to try to learn the same things. I guess there’s no way for us to know how we’re doing in our quest to grow our souls until we die or nearly die.
That's not what the Bible sas. Bible says they are a sleep, the dead know nothing, until those in Christ will be risen at his second coming. Be careful with spiritualism folks. They will lie to you and take you away from the truth.

Australia. Great podcast Jannecke. I used Dr Eben Alexander's book for studies in a spiritual book club. So many of the participants were no longer fearful of death. That of course was the outcome I was hoping for. Loved this podcast and will be reading his book "Living in a mindful Universe" for future studies.

Everything you are describing here has been known and are primary concepts in Hindu Dharma which is thousands of years old. Please read Hindu Vedas and Upnishidas in particular Advait Vedanta. Dr Alexander should have the courage to openly say that he heard the sound of Ome(actually spelled as Aum), a sound very auspicious in Hindu dharma.
At about 46:00 he mentions a guy trying to discredit him by claiming that his coma was medically induced when it was actually caused by meningitis, but then goes on to say that it was actually medically induced. Was that just an accidental slip of the tongue?

I found most of it quite inspiring, only the talk about fossile fuels and the planet did annoy me as it seemed to come from his mind rather than from higher intuition…

No doubt Eben will be a milestone voice summarizing the field of NDEs and fitting it into an evolving integral world and cosmic view. I note he has referred to Ken Wilber, another milestone intellectual who has worked to map all aspects of consciousness – with a encyclopedic set of books written on the subject. I am certain they will both emerge as a part of the new Aquarian Age educational systems.

Dr. Alexandar, please read "The Law of One as Told by Ra" written in 1983 to have a deeper understanding and clearer mind about how the Universe works and why it's the way it is as you've accurately described. The Source is Love and everything else follows. The first law of the Creaton was that everything created would have Free Will and so it's been ever since. We are living in a Level 4 world now but it wasn't always so. We were a Level 3 planet until about 56 years ago. Being in a Level 4 world is about love over materialism. This is truly the Age of Aquarius and out path and future has always been written in the stars and told by mystics and astrologers.
Modern research on Near Death Experience by Raymond moody, reincarnation memories by Ian Stevenson/Jim trucker and past lives regression by Brian Weiss all independently but coincidentally show that our consciousness survive death, we live many lives and our thoughts and actions matter in the hereafter. This is in line with Buddhist teachings and the concept of karma.
So be kind and helpful to others, be virtuous, meditate and cultivate ourselves to higher spiritual levels. Cheers.
For those whose knowledge comes from the books you have read and learned from take one step further and instead experience the side we come from if you want to experience that side which exists along the physical side of you desire for it, you will be surprised how much different it is compared with what you have read from books, including the experiences of those who wrote their own through the personal NDE. I have done it, and was provided after literally of asking.
