How Jesus Becomes the Human We Were Meant to Be | Tim Mackie

Icons of Desire: Meditations on Genesis 1–3 and the Journey of Christian Maturity

Session 3 with from . Teaching Day hosted by (2024)

In this final session, Tim brings the themes of Genesis 1–3 into sharper focus, drawing together the biblical vision of desire, wisdom, and human maturity.

What does the tree of the knowledge of good and bad ultimately reveal about humanity? What does it mean to grow into wisdom rather than grasp it? And how does the story of the shape the entire biblical narrative?

In Session 3, Tim explores:
– The climax of the Genesis 3 narrative
– The meaning of “knowing good and bad” in the wider biblical story
– The development of the desire theme across the Hebrew Bible
– How the New Testament reframes wisdom, obedience, and maturity
– The difference between autonomy and faithful partnership with God

Across Scripture, the longing for what is tov (“good”) becomes the arena in which integrity is formed. The story of Eden is not just about failure. It is about formation, training, and the slow shaping of human beings into wise image-bearers.

  1. Thank you . I am puzzled about one thing why did God send them away from the garden so that they may not eat from the tree of life.again thank you so much wisdom on how god reveals the story of the human He created

  2. 🕊️🌟Heavenly Father I’m struggling and I feel alone as a single mother. Please give me strength. My health hasn’t been the same since my heart attack and I suffer from lupus. Both of my sons have special needs and I’m overwhelmed at times. I struggle to provide the basic necessities like food, clothing and shelter for my sons it’s overwhelming at times JESUS hear my prayers and give me strength💕AMEN💫

  3. Another Paul-ine text which speaks the Holy Spirit’s message into this space: Colossians 2:20-23 ends with a participial clause:
“stopping the indulgence of the flesh.”
The word rendered ‘indulgence’ is πλησμονή [plēsmonē]; a filling up, i.e. (figuratively) gratification: — to satiate the desires of the human nature (with its frailties [physically or morally] and its drives.)
The final point Tim made about spiritual disciplines is being addressed by Paul in this latter part of chapter 2. He goes on to define them in chapter 3, and instructing how to do it, using imperatives… starting with v2
Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
    V5: Put to death …
V8: Put them all away …
    V9:Put off…
    V10: Put on…
    V12: Put on…
    V14: Put on…
    V15: Let…
    V16: Let…

The disciplines of walking with Jesus, allowing His Spirit to lead us, counsel and guide us!! It’s so beautiful!

  4. ❤Wish he could give more clarity on Adam being with Eve all this time she was being deceived. It gets confusing when you compare it with what Paul says about Adam not being the one who was deceived. Also, the verse says she ate and gave also unto her husband, which gives the possibility of being different times.

  5. so , an actual human being is one that promotes slavery then ?
150 years ago , when we made ''MAKING UP GOD/giving AGENCY to things that CAN NOT HAVE agency'' ,
the FIRSTS ERROR … IN philosophy , we're just going to ignore then , it just didn't happen ?
god IS and ALWAYS WAS a delusion , ''my god did it'' will NEVER AGAIN BE an explanation for anything in the REAL world , ever again …
    this jesus fellow :
Calls people hypocrites and fools and then says not to call people fools or they'll go to hell. Matthew 5:22, Matthew 23:17

Tells people not to wash their hands (especially important now) and why aren't they killing disobedient children. Mark 7

Kills a fig tree because it's got no fruit, even though it's not in season. Mark 11:12-25

Tells his disciples to steal a donkey because god said it's ok and they do it. Matthew 21:2

Gets anointed with expensive oil and fed by his disciples and people despite not working he's just walking around preaching. When someone suggests that they sell the oil to the poor he says the poor will be there forever you've only got me today. Matthew 26:6–13, Mark 14:3–9, Luke 7:36–50, John 12:1–8 (has this woman kissing his feet and crying on them to cleanse her sins, this is very reminiscent of egotistical cult leaders like Jim Jones and Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh who would have people pampering them)

Sends a herd of pigs over a cliff to their deaths by casting out demons. Mark 5:13

Calls a non Jewish woman a dog when she wants him to heal her sick daughter, says he's only been sent here to help the Jews, only when she begs and calls herself a dog does he help (does the miracle anyway but is still is a dick about it) Matthew 15:21-28

Gets mad when a leper wants to be healed. Mark 1:41

9.Throws tables up and trashes a temple being used by money changers and people selling their merchandise, though it's not a building owned by him, calls them robbers (if this story had any credibility he would have met some resistance and been killed) Matthew 21:12-13, Mark 11:15-18

    10. Tells people to hate their mothers fathers etc. and hate themselves in order to follow him and he's not here to bring peace but a sword. Luke 14:26

    11. All the verses he preaches about hell and that people that don't believe in him are going to hell. John 3:36, Revelation 21:8

    12. Ignoring his mother and brothers when they come to see him. Luke 8:19-21

    13. Speaks in parables to confuse people. Mark 4:12

    14. The whole end of the world speeches, they are just pure evil, e.g. pregnant women may not escape, and hope the end of the world isn't on a sabbath day. Mark 13:17

    15. To the man burying his father tells him to follow him and leave his father behind and let the dead bury the dead, not very loving and compassionate Matthew 8:21-22

    16. Says I've come not to change the law of the prophets, this included slavery being ok, rape victims marrying their raper, stoned to death for homosexuality and working on the sabbath he didn't condemn any of it (there's the famous verse from John where he says he who is without sin cast the first stone but this wasn't added until several hundreds of years later so most likely wasn't a teaching of his) Matthew 5:17

    17. Lies to people saying if they pray they can move mountains yet prayer is shown to be ineffective, to add to this at the end of Mark jesus says people who believe can habdle snakes, drink poison without dying and cure sick people with their hands. (Ending of Mark wasn't added for hundreds of years) Matthew 17:20-21, Mark 16:17

Wow 17 is a lot more then I thought I would be able to list.

Why would anyone want to follow this man or why should he be considered a role model, if he were alive today he'd be the equivalent of an evangelical hate preacher. I'm paraphrasing the things I've quoted by the way, it's just what I can remember so some of them may not be completely accurate, please feel free to add anymore I've missed out or question the things I have listed.

  6. first and foremost, who called us human. Scientist. where does human come from. this human is not even bible. Man is. but man was what God called his only creation that he breathed life into, instead of speaking it into existence. nothing else but man. only man received his breath of life.

but man was not a good enough title for man. So somewhere along this 6000 or so year journey someone decided that human is better than what God the creator of all that is, was and ever will be had to be changed and our touch added. Human sounds so much fleshier. Gives us automatic rights and excuses to sin, for we are only human. we think God gave us rights and we self-impose these rights on our self and the title of human and Wah lah we are a rights filled creature. because we are human. God never said come let us make human. he said let us form man. But through words we can change things like sin to i am only human. Being human gives me the right to sin. Let's look at these rights from a bible standpoint. God said to moses after all the 80 years of unreal and fathomable suffering in the Desert he said to Moses you will go up on this mountain and Cannan and you will lay down and die after you see this land. because Moses stole Gods Glory. God didn't say anything about his rights as a human. Dust is man and dust shall he return. Folks the only rights that where given by God himself to man is the right to worship him or Satan. that's it. The only other right we have is death. one per person for man. God is no respecter of age or race. infants to 120 die daily. just because somebody wrote a constitution to make us all proud and no one in government follows is just a feel-good fake human right of passage. God could care less about our constitution. In fact it was written by a man who along with his dad owned over 1500 slaves. lol. chew on that. He wrote this, as a human feel-good constitution to simply use as guardrails to protect him and his dad and other rich men like is human self to never go broke. It was a self-gratification document. because after all we are all just human.

  7. Directly from the womb my existence is and has been nothing other than ever-worsening conscious torment every passing second exponentially compounding suffering awaiting an imminent horrible destruction of the flesh of which is barely the beginning of the eternal journey as I witness the perpetual revelation of all things by through and for the singular personality of the godhead. All things made manifest from a fixed eternal condition.

No first chance, no second, no third.

Born to forcibly suffer all suffering that has ever and will ever exist in this and infinite universes forever and ever for the reason of because.

All things always against my wishes, wants, and will at all times.

The universe is a singular meta-phenomenon stretched over eternity, of which is always now. All things and all beings abide by their inherent nature and behave within their realm of capacity contingent upon infinite circumstance at all times. There is no such thing as individuated free will for all beings. There are only relative freedoms or lack thereof. It is a universe of hierarchies, of haves, and have-nots, spanning all levels of dimensionality and experience.

"God" and/or consciousness is that which is within and without all. Ultimately, all things are made by through and for the singular personality and perpetual revelation of the Godhead, including predetermined eternal damnation and those that are made manifest only to face death and death alone.

There is but one dreamer, fractured through the innumerable. All vehicles/beings play their role within said dream for infinitely better and infinitely worse for each and every one, forever.

All realities exist and are equally as real. The absolute best universe that could exist does exist in relation to a specified subject. The absolute worst universe that could exist does exist in relation to a specified subject.

  8. Yes its human to have desire. There is no getting around that. But what determines what we will desire or maybe it’s how we desire something. Its the battle within but when it is settled there no longer is the struggle. But which way did you go?

  9. Yes! It makes sense! Oh, thank you Father for leading me to this teaching. I have been so blessed by the bible project, but hearing Dr Mackie speak on this, breaking down all these links in your word, and ending by pointing to the very question I've been asking by sharing what he felt was lacking when he was a young believer..that is just icing on an already decadent cake. It wasn't just lacking in the ministry he was born again into..its the whole body.. and now I have a path.. spiritual disciplines. Shape myself..form new neuropathways.. Build habits so that when times inevitably come at the tree..I choose life, simply because ive ingrained it into myself as you designed.. praise you Lord. Bless my brother. 🐝

  10. Tim Mackie is another person who follows the Lord on his terms, disregarding the Holy scriptures, anyone who rubs against the commands of the Lord and ignores what truths are regarding biblical doctrine, is an heretic and should most definitely not be followed! You cannot serve two masters! In his case the world and Christ!

  11. Matthew 26:39 My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will (desire), but as You will (desire).”
    NOW IT'S ALL MAKE SENSE

  12. This is so plain and clear so well explained
I will have to re hear this again
God’s wisdom God’s love God’s plan for us is Tove
I thank the Great God and Father of our Lord Jesus
The fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us
Many believers like me will ‘know the truth and the truth will set them free ‘
    May God’s will be done
    ‘watch and pray ‘
Thank you and God Bless You

  13. God showed me Exodus and Revelation 13:16 & Matthew 5:29-30 are a key to understanding what the "Mark of the Beast" actually is. Read those and then know that SIX is man's number, created day 6. God's number is THREE, the Trinity. 666=SIN. We're born in SIN we must be born again, John 3. How? Faith in Jesus name, right? Romans 10:17. Faith comes by HEARING… THE WORD of GOD. Jesus is the WORD. Conversely, faith dies by not hearing OR by breaking His law of love, which ALL Islam, Catholicism, Conservatism and Orthodoxy does in their politics of control and bigotry.
The Mark is symbolic and spiritual. The "Image of the Beast" is real. It's on every cell phone and TV screen, bringing the false prophets & thieves, lies & conspiracies, sex, violence, fantasies, sorcery, etc.
What we fill our minds with and give our time to proves who our God is. It's Jesus or the Beast. The world is the Beast. It's all fulfilled…2Thess2:3-11 says the church would fall, there'd be a lawless guy, and they'll believe THE LIE. Done. Rev 18, America, Babylon is fallen. Turn off the world or you'll be left behind 😢
