29 thoughts on “Where Does Consciousness Come From?”
As long as there is a breath of oxygen on this earth, there is God, and God is alive. No atmosphere, no God consciousness is God God is our atmosphere (air/breeze)
Conscious awareness must have languages as a base part,it should be as a part logic analysis unit. We need units as an information unit to link these units and compare of each unit to calculate and get a result.
Wonderful, amazing. It's nice to see people getting closer to the answer. Consciousness is definitely not particles… I'm amazed to know that people actually believed this at all.
Mr. Peterson, I've said it before and I will keep saying it: Please have a conversation with Bernardo Kastrup – ideally in combination (or as a separate interview) with Rupert Spira. I really hope to witness the day this happens. Wishing you and your family health and all other good things life has to offer. Thank you for what you are doing.
You can trace back consciousness through the evolutionary path line. You need to see and record information in order to take control and survive. Dna is the first form of consciousness and then it takes it a step further with the eyes and brain. It’s really not as complicated as people make it out to be. The more complicated part is the world that we record.
This is based on a scientist who combined Freud (psycoptherapi) with neurology. He's based on a South African university. Name escapes me atm.
There are people who are born without a brain, as in their cortex is just liquid water, and the only thing left is the brain root. They clearly experience emotions and can express happiness and grief to the same stimuli as you and me. He had other examples as well, such as lacking inner cortex or frontal cortex. They could express themselves perfectly fine, even without aforementioned respective cortex.
The reason why we have consciousness, why it's developed, is so we can maintain homeostasis, the opposite of entropy. For example: If I feel a negative emotion, I can experience that negative emotion, and based on that warning system, take action so that the negative emotion is replaced with a better emotion, and thus no longer feel worse negative emotions in the future. It's a basic survival mechanism. Let's say you hold your hand over fire, and you feel gradually more heat, ergo you choose to withdraw your arm because you feel harm. That dreadful feeling prevented you from melting your arm. You can say some feelings have become instinctual, like fear of height or snakes.
I'm not sure I understand the point of this guy is, so I guess I should listen to the podcast.
Your premise assumes that consciousness comes from somewhere in particular, instead of being emergent from a multitude. We don't know. Stating science can't tell us "why" is quite a useless statement.
I think why there is no answer is because conscious is not a single thing that comes from single part of the brain. Is a collection of sensory and logical activity that firing concurrently. It might be a wrong question in the first place.
Uh, excuse me, Jack, consciousness has no particles cuz is nonmaterial. Consciousness exists and functions as wavelengths or subtle vibration. Some guys theorize that there are seven levels of consciousness the seventh is being oneness with God and the lowest degree is one that makes us simply aware that we are alive. All livings things even plants have and lower animals possess the most basic and elementary kind of consciousness. Actually, consciousness, believe it or not, is the only one true reality and has the quality of permanence and continuity.
Why equate particles with consciousness? Why is understanding what particles are a prerequisite to explaining consciousness? And why not extend this unreasonable standard to everything else? We might as well say that the inner workings of the heart, a clock, or a phone, cannot be understood by science since science hasn't told us what particles are. But we know better than to think that. I hope Peterson has helped educate this man during this discussion because it's a bit embarrassing how smug he is in spelling out what he sees as a limitation of science while betraying his utter ignorance of it.
Isn't that pre assumptous considering that the person making the claim isn't gonna be around forever a lot things that previously seemed impossible are now possible you know
Have you ever considered the possibility that consciousness is an organic phenomenon, and not at all part of particle theory? Do you have some conscious rocks or chrystals or anytning not organic – that still is conscous?
It comes from different the parts of the brain. I cut out your frontal cortex, your consciousness changes, because the physical processes that produce it no longer happen. Same as how surgically removing the bones from your legs would prevent you from walking. They’re both processes undertaken by physical objects.
You are wasting your time trying to figure out something about consciousness rather than to master it because it is what is creating your reality. Philosophical thought is great practice but living requires practical action. Master your thoughts and you will master your life.
Isn't consciousness when your start to be self aware and actually remember it, basically ur first memory. You were basically probably conscious as a baby you just don't remember it.
this man is correct in my opinion. science is not the place to look for the meaning of consciousness. the trouble with modern humans is the desire for proof. even if there was proof, the human brain would not be able to comprehend it. consciousness is the ‘will’ ‘intention’ behind everything. there was no creation of the universe without the will or intention to create it. 🙏🏽

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Genesis 1:27
YET…science can’t tell us yet.

He is not impressed at all

Why do people think consciousness is so infinitely complex? It’s not.
“That’s what’s always going to be missing from biology”. No, it’s not.
“Just doesn’t understand what science is.” What a fool.

It's that single particle that absorbed my energy of consciousness, I will live on just not my memories.

If you understand what science is, you would know, if it can't answer answer something ever then its irrelevant b.s

Quantum Physics is the only that can solve the problem of Quantum consciousness.
Consciousness is the decadence of free will.
Consciousness is supernatural (in the literal meaning of the word). It’s the nexus to God.

I don't see a big mystery in consciousness. It's just the brain's ability to observe it's own thoughts and reason about them.
I wish I could’ve heard Jordan’s response. Consciousness has to be one the most fascinating things about the universe
