  1. 5 years ago, I was hit by a car. Grade 3 tear in my MCL, and a hairline fracture in my hip. Ambulance ride, overnight hospital stay, emergency surgery, half a dozen xrays, 2 mri's, and three years of specialist care. Not one bill.
Obviously I'm Canadian. And this narrative that healthcare incentivizes laziness? Yeah right. I couldn't wait to get OUT of the healthcare system to move on with my life, earn a degree, and work in the field I work in now. And it was because of the quality care I received, that allowed me to move on – without having to worry about a single hospital bill.
Sure we pay more in taxes, but we leave no one behind. Collectively, we understand that our healthcare system is as important as our schools, roads, police/fire departments, and other socialized programs.

  2. What I'd like to ask is if someone doesn't care about their health why would they go to the doctor? I'm also wondering about preventative medicine. If single payer covered prevention wouldn't that be an opportunity for doctors to educate their patients about how to live healthier lives.

Also who's Jon Scott? He kind of seems like a moron.

  3. Yeah…
My motivation to stay healthy didn't stop be from having epilepsy or getting cancer. I guarantee I live a healthier lifestyle than that twat.. probably defends Monsanto and denies pollution negatively impacts people's health too.

  4. If people have access to medical advise they will be more likely to be able to make healthier decisions and then consume less healthcare which brings down the price for all of us. These attitudes come from a lack of understanding how insurance works, the more people who are healthy the better the system works but healthcare providers and researchers are monetarily incentivized to treat sickness rather than maintaining healthiness.

  5. Welfare in terms of unemployment benefits and government funded healthcare helps reduce desperation. Where people are desperate to provide for themselves and their families, crime in the form of drugs, prostitution, criminal gangs, kidnappings for ransom, etc quickly follow as a way for the desperate to acquire money from those who have more. You don't have to look far to see places around the world where this occurs.

  6. As an Australian we have health expenses covered (well it is complicated but if you have no income other than welfare it is all covered from certain doctors) and I assure you that people have incentive to live in an active and healthy manner.

  7. If millionaires and billionaires don't have to worry about paying to see a doctor since they're rich, why aren't they falling over dead? Wouldn't their incentive to live just disappear? His argument would have to apply to everyone who doesn't worry about cost.

  8. …because, as well as know, going to the doctor is the one and only thing that makes people healthy, because doctors are magicians and one visit can cure any chronic illness. Of course Republicans believe in magic! They think the Earth is 6,000 years old.

  9. I enjoy the show, but why so much commentary and so little of the actual clips being talked about? Often in these videos it takes several minutes to get to even showing the relevant clip, before cutting away very quickly. The commentary is often good, but it feels kind of tacky to have so much of the video be basically a monologue.

  10. Humanity died a long Time ago in the USA… they think they are morally and economicaly Exceptional.. To date No sincere or wholehearted Apology for destroying the Native's and making them irrelevant in their own Home Country, for the inhumanity to Take and Inslave human beings dehumanizing them for centuries, for droping two Atomic Bombs on Civilians, for using Napalm and Agent Orange in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, by making Raw Capitalism a Religion, labeling solidarity and compassion towards the unfortunate "Socialism or Communism".. so how do you expect this Nation, who let their Country be hijacked by Trump and his opportunistic friends, have a sense of Humanity and solidarity like the Western Europeans with their deep understanding for the social and economicaly aspect of peacefully sustainable society. America has a brutaly strong the-winner-takes-it-all and I don't give a f*** about the rest DNA.. So I think as long as many do not have the will and strength to let go their Denial of Wrong doing of huge Magnitude, the Exploitation and Self-Exploitation will go on and on.. come what may !

  11. The human desire to live also comes with the human desire not to suffer needlessly.

Most people, when made aware of the side effects of poor diet and lack of exercise, choose to avoid that kind of suffering.

And then there's the human desire for love – the knowledge that unhealthy people with unhealthy lifestyles have more problems attracting people compared to healthy people.

Fucking Republicans are dumb cunts for denying reality.

  12. This is a good example of the sort of mental gymnastics that one must resort to in order to justify Republican policies without stating the real reason they support such policies, personal greed.

  13. this guy knows nothing i come from uk, we have all those things and i know whole family`s that have never worked a day in their live`s and do not intend on doing so unless forced to work for their money absolutely none what so ever and as for the statement he said (maybe the human desire to remain alive) try smokers who get told stop or you will die and they keep smoking David Pakman stop talking about things you know nothing about

  14. I'm from EU country where we have "free" health care + you can pay additional fee (which is based on % your income – but it is totally affordable, even for poor people i guess. You dont need it though, but it can happen you will have to pay 10,20 EURos for something sometimes – not always, depending on seriousness of the condition you have), so you can avoid any additional costs, if you need a medical help.

there are still some additional costs you cant avoid (most likely being dentist and stuff like that).

I agree with you, that most of the people don't abuse health care system. No one goes to doctor because it is fun, if anything everyone goes to doctor early and this helps a lot in some cases (cancer, depression and such). Also, i would say people are aware more of healthy life style, since there are government paid periodical checkups, where they invite random selected people to full checkups (blood, weight, blood pressure, vision, urin,…etc…just basic stuff) and they basically doctors talk with you about risk you are taking with your lifestyle. They also try to help you improve your life style. Obviously decision to do something about it is all yours.

There is also private sector for those who can afford it (its actually not that expensive, my family members use it often). Most of the people use it for second hand opinion, or if you want to skip the waiting lines (for CT scans, teeth rentgen. You can also get operations if you want, but it will cost you money out of your pocket obviously). Please note that urgent cases can fully avoid waiting lines and you will not be left to die.

Btw: You can get front 8 teeth for free, since they are considered critical for living normal life (from health point of view and also psychological point of view). 🙂 I mentioned this, because i have family members in the USA (actually quite a lot of them) and whenever they come in EU, they spend half of their visit ruining around our doctors….
