Black Atheist – Religious Cults

Mar 2024 24

I’ve seen a lot of people talking about cults online recently. I am by no means a expert. But the churches I grew up going to definitely were part of a large network of what I believe to be mind controlling churches with profit as the head honcho’s motive. The whole thing is fascinating to me. But what is a really? And why are those somehow more bizarre to us than any of the other “respectable” religious beliefs out there? Here’s what I think.

Hi I’m OmoIgbo. I’m very humbled to have you watching and your input is always welcome. Please subscribe if you’d like to keep in touch. As usual, feel free to like, comment, and share this video. Thanks.

All religions are cults. Please someone provide me with a comprehensive definition of a religion that does not also define we a cult.

Good video. I interpret cults as organizations that manipulate members access to information and free thought with staunch consequences if broken. Also, an emphasis on strict adherence to their leader ( not the doctrine) must be present. This creates the stage for extreme behavior we all understand as “cultish”.

You're right all churches/religions start as cults. Christianity is an offshoot of Judaism. Jews consider that to be the original religion and some of them think Christians are weird. Christianity has splintered into thousands of sub sects.

The video you showed with the man saying " My sheep…come" is so chilling, that I had nervous laughter. Yes, all churches are cults. Especially the one I grew up in. Thanks for sharing.

I'm unfortunately stuck In this cult called the children of Israel bull crap can't eat pork keep the Sabbath , girls had to wear a doo rag or covering, celebrate only biblical events not holidays which I personally feel deprived from since the last 4 years its really disgusting and it's both the fault of my parents and worst its mind controlling . I'm still an angry atheist and my mom won't listen and I agree they're all cults its disgusting .

Cults claim to offer certainty and this may be appealing to those who need certainty.

the churches are cults they practice rituals like drinking the blood of Jesus in eating the bread which is his body that sounds like a cult to me..

Check out the "Bite Model" used to determine if something qualifies as a cult. Genetically Modified Skeptic as several videos on this topic. In this video he ranks the most onerous ones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFN9hIpiK3g

I've been in two cult like churches in my life. A whole bunch of you can't do this you can't do that. You can't go here you can't go there. You cant associate with these people over there. These fundy cults have helped to destroy me and my faith. I'm better now after years of deconversion. I sit between agnosticism and atheism at this time.

Although all religious behaviour to me is cultish I think that larger, more established and organised churches are accepted as just being religions, whereas smaller religious groups are more likely to be perceived as cults.

Yup, all religions are to some extent cults. They have leaders, practices, doctrine, discipline and sanctions, hagiography, and an afterlife. Judaism and Jainism are probably the least cultish. People join religions because we're by nature gregarious and religions fulfill our need to be around others that think likewise. Personally as long as religious establishments pay taxes like other non-profits I have no problem with their existence. Unfortunately that's not the case in most of the world.
