THIS IS THE BEST VAN LAYOUT – https://youtu.be/eDmhoJPYrkE

I've been thinking on and off about getting a small van and converting it just for the fun of it. I'm not someone that goes too far afield often, but I'd very much like to have a day-trip vehicle where I can take a room with me to prepare food and relax at dinner time. Maybe a folding bench seat somewhere to overnight on the weekend, but really I kinda just want to make a living room on wheels, rather than a house on wheels. Either way, I keep thinking about it and having new ideas each time I do.

    Do they have self-sufficient electricity producer/solar panels/battery?

  4. #4

I would personally love a small van for one person which has all the facilities. I would like to use it for daily shopping and as a caravan when needed, so it needs to fit into the garrage

Hi there, where do you get the gear layout twin seat please? I love how it lays flat and seconds as another small bed

The only item that should be semi permanently to the floor of the Sprinter is a pinball machine, every thing else in the cargo area should be secured with jettisoned straps.

A Break Down of the Van's that You guys build out. Sprinter Vans are Front Wheel Drive only. Nothing wrong with them, other than they have same Engine and Transmission as my Chrysler Minivan currently has at 251hp. The Mechanical aspect of the Van is very important. As these van's are mainly used for Commercial use, not designed for comfort. Buying a Used Van and getting a maintenance record of that van is mandatory! Some companies take care of their fleet. And some don't, they 3rd party their maintenance. Box Trucks/Vans from U-Haul have a good maintenance protocol for their vehicles. I've noticed and have watched a ton of Vanlife videos on Youtube. Being prepared for anything is not really looked at. Video's with the title of "Stuck in a Snow Storm -17 degrees" In this day and age of Tech. That shouldn't happen, and if anything you can buy the gear and food to survive in a storm like that. You can even test that equipment out yourself making notes. I've been stuck in a snow storm in a Semi Truck. Not fun at all. But I was able to get to a truck stop about 12 hours later to get Hot Food and a Hot Shower.

The 5 best layouts? They're all the same and just more of the same thing we're used to seeing. Nothing original and very boring

Is there any else version of Camper vans for family?

Having grown up upper middleclass. And Vanlifed for almost 14 years. And was a guy who showered twice a day. I find that showering everyday is ridiculous (no kids here 😊). Especially when I have severely dry skin. Even during winter you can hook up a waterproof heated electric shower footpad. Put it behind your two back van doors on the ground and plug it into van house power in the garage. Hang a foldable hulahoop shower curtain between open or closed back doors. Pull an insulating waterproof tarp down over the open doors. And shower outside comfortably once the floor pad and tankless water is heated up after 10 minutes. And save 10 square feet of stupid indoor wetbath wasted shower space. From inexperienced people used to standard housing life. No offense. In that the advantages to have a vehicle to do Urban Vanlife, too. Mostly to be able to fit your van in a Standard Size Parking spot and fit under low ceiling parking garages is highly desirable in tough parking environments.🎉

Excellent advice. And I've had live-in vans since the early 90's.

  12. #12

Hello, thanks for the amazing video! What is the size of the smallest bathroom (with the toilet together)? In the time 6:35 of the video. Thanks a lot for the advice!

  13. #13

Love it!!! Planning on returning and traveling in a van. Thank you for sharing. Do you build out in any other van manufacturers ie…Ford or Dodge?

  14. #14

Thanks, you had a lot of nice solutions, and I would love to build something simple some time

  15. #15

with 3 kids under 10. and toilet is must … is there any?

  16. #16

Half-built van sitting in my drive for 3 years…

  17. #17

This video has way too many words

  18. #18

    That mics setup… Ugh

  19. #19

Can you do a video presentation on the dollar costs for the various floor plans?

  20. #20

Good video, lots of great ideas.
I’d love to see a rear bathroom in a new super high top Ram with a bed lift in the front…really curious on how much head room it would provide.
Maybe work, maybe a flop…maybe a Murphy would be better…
Love all the options to dream about.

  21. #21

The Wife and I are looking to tour the U.S. in a van like these. We're not interested in a large RV nor are we interested in paying $150 + a night in some motel.

  22. #22

Love this design, thing is…i could use the dining area as the work and play space with the flat screen tv there where the bed dining table conversion is. Then have bathroom extended where the work space is and with a small closet space with shelving and stuff to hang clothes wrapping all around in front blocking driving area with a large hanging closet and shelving there also, or maybe a sitting area in front of entrance where the window is still there with storage below and has a pull out feature to extend into a another bed that way also. That so work for me. All the fixtures and design elements are nice for me. I am definitely saving this video for a great idea to live in for the rest of my days while in America. This be amazing and love it. 😊

  23. #23

I love the bed lift thing . My son is 13 and he’s autistic. When he’s grown I’m going to start my van life journey with him . Hopefully I’ll be rich by then to buy one

  24. #24

I just saw the video, I enjoyed it, but hear me out , fold away the sink and stove….for a small dance floor!! Two step dancing!
So far your system is too notch!

  25. #25

RIP headphone and hifi guy xD Her voice is always right and his is left xD

  26. #26

Why do I never see anyone build into the cab? There's so much space under and between the seats, on the dash, etc. A solo traveler could even fold up the passenger seat and turn it into an office space.

  27. #27

    Great info, heart delivery

  28. #28

My list includes, permanent bed side by side, good water and grey water capacity, good toilet but not so worried about the shower because we always stop at campsites.

  29. #29

I like the idea of a custom designed van. I will be traveling alone f about 2 yrs. But I must still work a bit. I need a small office space in the back to work, write, a house a small flight simulator. I think a lift bed could go above or a simple bunk bed stashed against a wall. A small kitchen w no cooktop but maybe one externally will work. Separate toilet/shower is desirable. But the work space and my flight sim are my big priority. Everything else is a trade off. Any fp layout in mind?

  30. #30

I appreciate the information. I'm planning on moving into a van when I retire and traveling. I'd love some tips on solar set up and plumbing set up. I'm planning on having the electrical done by a professional but need information to decide what size is right for my needs.

  31. #31

Love this video. And all the tips!

  32. #32

Anyone ever done a van with a wheelchair lift?

  33. #33

Have you guys ever done a full conversion of a wheelchair accessible van?

  34. #34

I'm ready to jump in to van life. I've been looking at a couple hundred videos of stock vans and checked out 8 or 10 in person. Every single van is missing something important for me (widower, traveling alone mostly) so I want to look into a custom van. How do I find out some ballpark figures for the van and the conversion?

  35. #35

One day if I get to have a japanese wife who wants or willing to do van life, I am more than likely to support her dreams. Since I am asian (specifically Japanese) my goal van build would be to have a place to take off the shoes, more storage to store toaster oven, reliable cook space, and adjustable shower head.

  36. #36

    Great video. Very Helpful!🎉

  37. #37

This is the vans you make
So it's not an accurate or impartial assessment
There are tons of other vans and layouts
Why not just say, must watch before van life in our vans?

  38. #38

We currently have a self converted 144 Sprinter with a slide out toilet and external shower. My wife likes the 144 for parking and driver but wants an interior shower. I like your designs and decor but alas I’m in Australia.

  39. #39

Have you ever done a 144 Sprinter with a fixed raised bed and shower?

  40. #40
  41. #41

do you design with the sleeping area bump outs so two people can sleep east/west?

  42. #42

I wish you'd give bed dimensions.
Also I need a toilet, but an outdoor shower would be great.

  43. #43

I really love the bungalow design. 😊

  44. #44

When you have a stereo mic and its backwards… 😉

  45. #45

3:25 so where is the dresser cabinet? Not sure if dresser cabinet is what I mean – is there a "dresser" where can you put your clothes, e.g. shirts, on hangers?

  46. #46

Love the abundant daylight in your designs. That's what brought me here (yt search "van build with a lot of big windows"). I would appreciate if you had on your website approximate price ranges for each of your designs. Could be super wide ranges, just to have a very rough idea. Don't want to give you any calls if it's for sure out of my budget.

  47. #47

she's on the left but her voice comes from the far right audio channel. he's on the right but his voice comes from the far left audio channel. this bother anyone else?

  48. #48

@5:01 min: the refrigerator location buried under a seat/door…THE REFRIGERATORs LID WONT EVEN STAY OPEN…Ridiculous!!!!!!!!

  49. #49

'bed lift system'……………boom, there goes the budget !

  50. #50

I love the advice! The best one was the 90% advice.
